  1. In tomorrows edition of Le Monde another story about Lance. According to former teammate Frankie Andreu and his wife Betsy Lance was asked by a doctor of Indiana University Hospital if he had doped (the doctor wanted to know this for Lance his brain surgery in 1996). They said (in front of a Dallas court - Franky in October 2005 and Betsy in january 2006) in that Lance answered that he took Epo, testosteron, hormones and cortisone. There where 3 witnesses during the conversation of Lance and the doctor, the third one was an employee of Oakley (one of Lance sponsors) Stephanie McIlvain. He said in front of the same court that he didn't hear that Lance has said this.

    I've got this information from:
sportwereld.beDetail.aspx but they didn't translate the complete article.

    The original article is at:

and we thought it was all over.... oh dear... better say sorry to [censored] then ! :p

Lance Armstrong admitted he has taken the performance-enhancing drug erythropoietin (EPO) at the time he was treating his cancer, French daily Le Monde reported.

"According to new testimonies gathered from October 2005 to January 2006 by a court in Dallas, the seven-times Tour de France winner told a Indiana University Hospital doctor on October 28, 1996 he has taken performance-enhancing drugs," Le Monde said in a report to be published later on Friday.

"The doctor questioned him on a possible use of doping products after his brain surgery in order to prescribe his post-surgery treatment.

"In front of (former team mate) Frankie Andreu and his wife, who have testified under oath in Dallas, Armstrong said he had taken 'EPO, testosterone, growth hormones and cortisone'," Le Monde added.

    lequipe.frlequipe.fr

the article says that l'Equipe will run the story on in its color magazine insert tomorrow (24th) in addition to a statement from Greg LeMond that Lance threatened LeMond to escape a drug test !

Jaques Rogge of the IOC announced wednesday that they will make their own investigation about the whole case (the role of WADA, Pound, the role of the UCI and the probes of Armstrong)

  6. I thought that this was all common knowledge?

Lance has always admitted to taking these drugs when he was undergoing treatment for cancer. Just like anyone else who is undergoing treatment for cancer. A few years ago he was doing a TV commercial where he was talking about how he'd be dead if it wasn't for the drugs developed by Bristol Meyers Squib(sp?) Why is it suddenly a big deal?

The article is stupid. He had not taken EPO for cancer before his brain surgery.
How many of you would go in for a meeting with a brain surgeon and have a confidential medical conversation with an ex-teammate and his wife?

How much sense does that make?
    His doctors have already testifified.

Yes he already had some chemo and probably steroids to shrink the tumor before surgery.
    Big deal

  8. Frankie and his wife swore under oath in court? Is this the insurance company case that doesn't want to pay for his 6th win?

    I think you're confused.

The doctors weren't asking the question with regard to his treatment - they were asking the question in relation to his cycling career.

I think they settle that one.

Armstrong won that case as far as i know, the reason was that the insurance company couldn't proof that LA doped.

Three others were also in the hospital room: his then girlfriend, Lisa Shiels, his trainer Chris Carmichael, and Carmichael's wife Paige. Neither those, nor the doctors who operated on Armstrong, were called to give evidence by the lawyers of the Texan, nor SCA Promotions.

I'm not sure how you get that based on the article I just read. What it says is that he admitted taking PED during cancer treatment, which we already know.

The new testimony, as far as I can tell, is just another reference to that.

Winslow ! You can't read. He went to have brain surgery to remove the tumor. The surgeon asked him had he every taken any gear during his cycling career to which Armstrong said he had and listed the drugs. This was important for the surgeon to know. Chemo comes after removing the tumor not before. So Armstrong took EPO for treament after the surgery. Get it right !

  15. He didn't just take EPO, it was prescribed by his doctors as part of cancer therapy. Various forms of chemo, which in reality is little more than controlled poisoning of the body, can thin the blood to the point where the patient dies from complications of low hematocrit. EPO was developed specifically to allow cancer patients to survive higher levels of chemo. My father had EPO as part of his treatment.

The French press is giving 'cheap shot' a bad name...

  16. This is really old news..... The question was not if he took EPO during his cycling career, but with refrence to his cancer treatment.

I admit I have never respected the French.

Maybe the journalists should ask themselves and dig up a story as to why the Frech have had no TDF contenders since the mid 80's......

  17. Try this for getting it right:

The doctor questioned him on a possible use of doping products after his brain surgery in order to prescribe his post-surgery treatment.

  18. My quick and dirty translation of the beginning of this article:

    lemonde.fr0,1 0@2 3242,36 787190@51 778298,0.html

The scene takes place October 28 1996 at the Indianapolis University Hospital (Indiana, US). Lance Armstrong has just undergone brain surgery following metastasized testicular cancer. In preparation of post-operative protocol/care/procedures, a doctor asks the American (1993 road world champion, but not yet winner of the Tour de France) if he has ever taken doping substances. The Texan replies in the affirmative and lists them: EPO, growth hormone, anabolic steroids, and testosterone.

This dark episode of the seven-time Tour de France winner’s life is told in detail by Betsy Andreu, the wife of the former American cyclist and former best friend of Lance Armstrong in legal proceedings (arbitrage) concerning the Texan and his insurance company, SCA promotions.

“[The doctor] started asking him ordinary questions. I don’t remember. And all of a sudden, bam!, have you ever taken doping substances? He answered yes. [The doctor] asked which ones. And Lance said, EPO, growth hormones, cortisone, steroids, testosterone,” explained Betsy Andreu in January 17th sworn testimony before a Dallas courtroom obtained by Le Monde.

Like his wife, Frankie Andeu was also with Lance Armstrong on October 28, 1996. During his testimony before the same court on October 25, 2005, the Texan’s former US Postal teammate said the same thing. “I don’t know how the doctor formulated his question, but the answer was that he had taken EPO, testosterone, growth hormones and cortisone,” indicated Frankie Andreu in his sworn testimony before a court in Dallas Le Monde has learned.

A third person present at the hospital, Stephanie McIlvain, the cyclist’s friend and employee of Armstrong’s sponsor Oakley, gave her version before the court in Dallas on November 14, 2005. She denied having heard Lance Armstrong admit to a doctor that he had taken illegal substances.

Yet, during a September 21, 2004, telephone conversation with Greg LeMond, Stephanie McIlvain had said that if called to testify, she would repeat what she had heard on October 26, 1996 in the Indianapolis hospital. The three-time Tour winner recorded the conversation. In that conversation, Stephanie McIlvain told Lemond“If I’m called, I’ll do it (…). Because I’m not going to lie. You know, I was in that room, I heard.” The tape was introduced as evidence.

Three other people were with Lance Armstrong on October 28, 1996: his then girlfriend, Lisa Sheilds; Chris Carmichael, his first trainer; and the latter’s wife, Paige. None of the three were called to testify by Armstrong’s lawyer, nor were the operating physicians, Craig Nichols and Scott Shapiro.

Okay Mr. Holmes! Now unless I'm sadly mistaken, Armstrong had surgery, AND chemo.. before the brain tumor was ever discovered. "Testicular" cancer, remember?!? He had more than one cancer surgery, how hard is that to understand?

  20. And the human growth hormone? This is actively contraindicated in cancer care - in fact HGH has been linked to causing certain types of cancer.
