OT: It's Raining!

I am in Chandler... LOVE seeing this rain! Been pouring here since 3:00
am. We really needed it!

Hah! I certainly can imagine your discomfort. I'm in the California
High Desert where I love all of the very dry days at 90+ degrees. I
don't mind the cold much, though, as long as it lasts only during the
hours of dark and no more than two days in a row so that I don't have
to be outside in it.

Food here awaits my imagination as to how to prepare boneless pork
"slabs" or chicken thighs. Last night's curly pasta with seasoned and
golden fried onions and mushrooms buttered into it, along with whatever
other fresh steamed vegetable waits for my decision as well. Weekends
usually see me enjoying the more involved and larger meal mid-day
rather than as an evening dinner, but I've not decided how the meat
should be prepared yet. Any ideas? I'll be baking later, cookies or a
cake, or....

I'm really happy for you. I saw on the weather channel this morning that
you were in for precipitation that might at least saturate the soil. Most
of our area here is between 130 and 190 percent of normal snowpack and they
are figuring that our drought is over. Now if it just doesn't melt off too
early to be of any use. Hope so.

It's all a matter of perspective. It just got above 38 degree here so were are
stripped down to T shirts and enjoying the heat wave while it lasts. The forecast
is for snow on Friday.

I can understand that it is chilly. It's not freezing. There is a major
difference when it hits freezing, a really big difference. It would haveto be
down to 38 for more than a day before I bothered to turn on the furnace.

You're getting the rain we had last night, I suspect. More on the way!
It was hailing earlier too, first time in years here in San Diego. It's been
pouring off and on, drizzling off and on. I love it!

Congratulations. Chilly as it is, I bet it makes the air smell sweet
and all the greenery will be shiny clean afterwards.

Here is northern NJ we have been in shirt sleeves the yesterday and
today & my tulips are up a few inches...just enough to get the damn
deer to nibble at them.

I have sourdough based bread dough ripening and fermenting in the
fridge to bake for tomorrow for when The Princess comes home on spring

Actually, there is already some flash flooding in some areas and there is
still a flood watch in Pinal County. Driving home from shopping around noon,
we turned around at one intersection where there was a dip and over two feet
of water.

The cold in the desert isn't hard to take when it's dry. The high
humidity makes it bone-chilling.

I've had a yen for Tandoori Chicken and thighs are the ideal choice for
making it. Could you cut up some of the pork and make Pork Saté with a
couple of dipping sauces? The pasta sounds good, and some nice asparagus
tips would be a good addition, IMO. The only baking I've been doing is
what we can eat on Weight watchers. I baked chocolate muffins last night
that were studded with dried cherries.

Thanks, Boron. It really does cleanse the air and even the desert plants
appreciate a good washing. The lot we just bought where we'll put our new
house has a smattering of wild African daisies on it. Our new neighbor
mentioned a few days ago that if we'd had any rain, the entire property
would be covered in them. Very pretty.

Spring is finally headed toward NJ, then. The emerging of spring is one of
the few things I really miss from living many years in NE OH.

Thanks, Janet. I don't recall where you live, but that sounds like a lot of
snow. We worried when there was a lot of snow back in Ohio, for fear of a
quick melt and flooding.

Spring is just around the corner for you, Dee. I have the furnace cranked
up and the oven preheating to bake a pan of cornbread. It's a rare treat to

It's a refreshing treat, isn't it? I hope this isn't a freak rain day and
that we continue to have more throughout the week. We have desperately
needed it. The sun is so constant and pervasive here that I often long for
cloudy/rainy days. Of course, our "snowbird" visitors curse every
raindrop.
