City. Garden City is about 50 miles further west of Dodge. The wind
blows so continuously from the south during the spring and summer the
trees all point north. I'm in western Kansas.

Yippppppppeeeeeee!! That means we might actually get some rain too. It
hasn't been quite as long since it's rained here but we seriously need
rain. We've had slightly more than a tenth of an inch of moisture in the
last two months. We tend to get our best storms from the south here.
Hopefully it won't go too far south and miss us again.

I hope you get it, too! Everything has been so dry here that even the
desert floor was cracking.

I grew up loving those thunderstorms on the Ohio River. My mom and I in the
early 40's would go out on the porch swing and wait for the thunder and
lightning. On certain nights if Inner Sanctum was on the radio, we would
turn the lights out inside and listen while it was thundering and lightning.
One time during the day we were on the porch swing during this kind of
occurrence and our house dog who was under the tree closest to the house got
sent up in the air about 6' by a lightning strike. He survived, but the
tree didn't. When we lived on the West Coast, Wayne, I missed these storms,
too. I still love these storms, even when they strike our well 500' deep
and we have had to have it replaced 3x, each time with more expensive
equipment, and now I hope (fingers crossed) we've upgraded where Mother
Nature won't touch it anymore (knock on wood).

Wishing you the best of weather in the next few days (and longer,too, of
course).

after such a rain. We actually live in the desert, just a few miles from

2/3s with my weight loss. Still, I have to watch.

My daughter was born in Russell, Kansas; when married she lived a while in

I've heard stories about pioneer women that committed suicide because of the
incessant winds out here. I don't know if they're true or not but it
wouldn't surprise me.

It is interesting. I never knew that, and hope for the sake of
everyone in Dodge City that those constant winds blow the livestock farm
smells away from town. That's a smell I'll never forget.

Me neither. Nothing bothers me more than wind, and I would go crazy
sometimes, sitting at home, unable to drown out the sound. If I can get
inside where I can't hear the wind, or if wind is accompanied by rain,
it's not so bad for me. But the last year of windiness, even in Eastern
Kansas, has been nerve-wracking.

I'm not that much younger than you, and I remember those things which for

That probably isn't surprising, considering that shelters were not that
good and life required being outdoors quite a lot. When we first moved to
AZ, we lived quite far out in the desert in an area was prone to almost
constant wind. I absolutely hated going outside.

I truly appreciate the feeling of joy that can accompany a simple rain
event. It's been way less than 4 months here, but a drought is a
drought. And seeing lightening in the northern sky tonight raised my
spirits a heluva lot tonight.

I'm glad you're cold and wet tonight, and I mean that in the best
possible way.

It is interesting. I never knew that, and hope for the sake of

It does blow the smell away, but only half the year. LOL It takes several
years but eventually you get used to both the wind and the smell. I've
noticed that people here don't even really notice the wind until it's up to
20 mph. We call that "breezy."

I checked the forecast and I think the rain is going to miss us. :-(

FIL was taking the same medication you mentioned.
When he lost so much weight from cancer, he still had the diabetes, but
somewhere down the line after a few months of living at the lower weight, he
was able to get off the diabetes medication.
He did change his habits of eating as he gets most of his meals at the
assisted living apartments, so it was not a conscious decision and he is
incorrigible as to changes of lifestyle and takes no advice from anyone.
Any change has to be induced.
Now FIL has regained his weight I'm wondering what will happen to his
diabetes problem over the next few years.
(He loves his pasta!)
