In 2004 I lost 40 pounds and maintained (gained back 5). I lost the
first 40 with very little effort or mystery. IOW, I didn't have to
watch my calories.
Now that I want to lose 50 more pounds, it's totally different. After a
two-week induction, I'd lost only 6 pounds. I drank one evening during
induction (three 6oz glasses). Otherwise, I followed Atkins induction
to a T. Fitday and everything. During those two weeks my calories
ranged from about 1200 to about 1800, and my fat intake was around
60-70%.
During induction, I walked for 30 minutes at 3.5 mph on a treadmill.
Since induction ended two weeks ago, I've gradually resumed running on
the treadmill, sometimes to the point of soreness. I'm also doing light
weightlifting with free weights, and situps.
I have lost exactly one pound in the two weeks since induction. The
only things I've added back into my WOE are 1) more wine and spirits
(about 12oz three times per week) and 2) a tablespoon of salsa with my
eggs in the morning or a little more cream for a snack (which I mix
with cocoa powder and Splenda). About two days per week, I eat either
no lunch or no breakfast (ie., I eat only one or the other) b/c of my
schedule.
I admit I stopped using Fitday after induction, and I resumed this
morning after becoming so annoyed. A typical day of food looks like
this:
breakfast is
32oz coffee
4 tsp heavy cream
2 tsp Splenda
AND EITHER:
2 scrambled eggs
1 tbs butter
3 oz Bob Evans sausage
1 tbs Pace salsa (no sugar)
1 tbs sour cream
OR
2 eggs worth of egg salad, made with canola mayo and salt and pepper
3 oz Bob Evans sausage
lunch
no lunch
OR
2 oz cheddar
OR
2-3oz processed turkey
2 oz cheddar
1 tbs canola mayo
OR
med chicken breast
1 tbs butter
1 tbs olive oil
1-2 cups mixed greens
3 tbs Paul Newman olive oil & vinegar dressing
dinner
6-8oz some cut of meat (steak, chicken, pork)
2 cups butter lettuce or salad greens or green beans or broccoli
sprinkle of pine nuts
1 tbs blue cheese crumbles
3 tbs Paul Newman olive oil & vinegar dressing
6 oz wine
occasional dessert (3-4 nights per week)
2-3 oz heavy cream
1 tsp dutch process cocoa powder
1 tsp Splenda
My alcohol intake can't be my only problem, can it? Am I eating enough
fat? Am I eating hidden carbs? Am I perhaps not eating enough carbs?
Hunger is generally not a problem with this combo of foods/caloric
intake. Now that I've said that, I guess I'm probably eating too many
calories. Ho hum.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Cate
