  1. I lost my lifting gloves the other day. Asking for them at the Lost &
Found, I described them like this: they used to be white but they're
kind of a greyish-brown now. They're torn and the velcro doesn't stick
and the fingers are all sort of frazzled.

The clerk looked at me and I realized I really needed to buy new lifting
    gloves.

So I went in a store yesterday, ostensibly shopping for Christmas
presents for other people, and bought myself a new pair of gloves. They
aren't lifting gloves, though, they're bike-riding gloves. I loved the
way they made my hands feel - all happy - but when I went to the gym
this morning I'm just [censored] at the padding and how it sort of caught on
    the bar.

I need new gloves. (I guess I'll just have to use the cycling gloves
    for cycling.)

Anyone got any suggestions? I like elastic or mesh backs - I don't like
my hands to get too hot. I mostly like the padding inside the thumb. I
wear them mostly so I won't get splinters from the friggin ancient
iron as well as to avoid dust & rust and not get my hand lotion on the
iron. (Girly-girl weightlifting problems - possibly too chick-oriented
    for you macho men.)

I'll have to mail order it, since my small town can't offer me a better
    choice that cycling gloves.

    Ideas?

I train with a woman that won the silver medal at Masters Worlds this
year and she doesn't train with gloves and nor should you. As a
matter of fact, none of the hotties in my gym use gloves.

Naturally, that is the standardized MFW answer. However, since Whit
no longer posts to remind people that there is always an alternative
    view, I will.

Don't order them on the Web. You need to try them on.

Leather palms with double layers over where the bar lies.

Stretchy, breathable fabric on the rest of the glove, but *not* mesh.

They need to be tight. When they get loose (and they will) buy
another pair. If you wear gloves to protect your hands, too much slip
in the glove with defeat that purpose and may increase the risk of
    blisters.

I know that my suggestion may be scorned by both the macho and sissy
    contingents. But here goes.

I tried many of the so called training gloves. They had leather palms, some
padding, a velcro closer, chopped off fingers and an open (or mesh) backs.
They all became stiff and uncomfortable for me. Rather quickly too.

In desperation, while shopping at a big nursery for garden supplies, I
bought some garden variety work gloves. They were simple brown cotton
gloves. They had many little bumps on the palm and inside fingers of some
kind of flexible, rubber like material. Obviously to add in gripping
    slippery surfaces.

These worked perfect for me. They were cheap, readily available and lasted
for years. The little bumps on the palms and fingers provided just enough
of a padding effect. I did not like the padding. It also protected me from
    the occasional rust stain.

And, perhaps the most important feature, they provided a sure, slipfree grip
on all my movements. If I was pulling something that taxed my grip strength,
these gloves added to my ability.

It is a total minimalist approach. And it worked very well for me. I
picked up two more pair the other day at the dollar store. And I have no
problem buying expensive gear. I just did not feel the conventional workout
    gloves helped me that much.

This simple solution was my answer for a functional workout glove.

    YMMV

I found the PERFECT lifting gloves at Lowe's in the gardening section!
    Seriously...

Minimal palm padding so it does not get in the way, and the finger
covers end right below the fingertip knuckle.

I liked them so much, I bought a second pair for weeding. ;-) I like
having the bare fingertips for pulling smaller weeds. You need more
    dexterity for that.

They are better than any lifting gloves I've ever had in the past.

  14. I quit using lifting gloves years ago because :

    1) I would lose one or the other.

    2) They would get sweaty and slimy

    3) Between, straps, wraps, belt and lifting gloves my life was too
    complicated

Now none of the above, the KISS principal and I don't mean the band

You've actually been pretty good about ignoring the others, BTW. I'm

    competing for full-fledged troll status?

    To Om,
Just a word here OM - JMW has praised you here "you've been pretty good
about ignoring the others" - means so far he is happy with your performance.
Be careful not to get JMW off side as he will expose your true identity -
(you know he has called himself 'the enforcer' in his previous identity).
What he is saying above is that although he is (so far) happy with you,
don't push your luck by replying to 'troll enablers'. (so if you don't reply
to this, I will understand). You see, JMW is a control freak and probably
thinks he owns you now. So Curt as you know is a troll enabler as you have
been reminded by JMW above. Just be careful, Mate.

    (Was that all spelled right?)

    <cough!>

Almost needed a new keyboard there, thanks! ;-D

So you think I shouldn't mention him at all? Maybe I'll do that.

It was the "Was that all spelled right?" that made me laugh.
    Sorry if you mis-understood me...

Thanks. I've been liberally killfiling Davidson every time he appears
and MT has some pretty sophisticated killfiles which makes it easier.

    I'm
beginning to wonder about Curt, though. Is he still just a troll
enabler, perhaps even an ardent proponent of the trolls, or is he
    competing for full-fledged troll status?

    Maybe an IOM award? <G>

    Cheers!

You've actually been pretty good about ignoring the others, BTW. I'm
beginning to wonder about Curt, though. Is he still just a troll
enabler, perhaps even an ardent proponent of the trolls, or is he
    competing for full-fledged troll status?

    To Om,
Just a word here OM - JMW has praised you here "you've been pretty good
about ignoring the others" - means so far he is happy with your performance.

Nobody but me owns me luv, but thanks for caring... :-)

You see, I'm a bit of a reformed troll myself so he had a valid issue
with me. I'm ok with it.

One thing I will always do is own up to my mistakes!

    Cheers!
