  1. As I go along doing my LC daily routine, I plan ahead for the next high
calorie meal. This month there was supposed to be a breakfast with friends.
I was planning on having a giant omelet with all the fixings. Well, the
plan fell through. Now, I found myself craving that omelet anyway. I made
my own. It makes me wonder if my body really needed something in that
omelet, or if I'm getting new bad habits while in maintenance mode.

Also, on days where I'm planning a large dinner at a restaurant with
friends, the logical thing to do would be restrict food all day. I know
I'll have plenty of calories at dinner. Unfortunately, thinking about that
dinner makes me hungry all day. I end up eating my normal daytime rations,
and then adding the large dinner on top of it. If I had not been planning
to dine out, I would have had much better self control through the day.

    Humans are weird.

If others experience things like this, perhaps the current slow period in
the LC diet groups is related to plans for Thanksgiving. Having that
upcoming day in our minds may be causing some of us to reject dieting even
before the one day where it is customary.

    Cubit,

Restricting food all day can be very bad for your blood sugar because it
can cause the liver to start dumping glucose, raising blood sugar
levels, raising insulin, and making it very likely you'll end up eating
a lot more than you need later.

Better to have small low carb snacks all day so that when you hit the
food you aren't being driven by abnormal blood sugar response.

Personally, I decided years ago that food consumed on Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and my Birthday has no carbs in it at all. Works for me. (I
don't have a history of binging, though. I would not recommend this to a
    person who does.)

That is by far the stupidest thing I've heard on this ng to date. Hey,
moron, eat a good nutritious filling breakfast then you eat a good
nutritious filling lunch, then you eat a good nutritious filling
supper, then you eat a good little nutritious snack before bed and
possibly in mid-afternoon. If it is low-carb your appetite will be
satisfied, and you will not overeat and and you will lose weight.

No, you are weird. Eat low-carb properly and you will not be hungry and
you will not be tempted to eat [censored]. Or to eat too much at one sitting
because of the massive hunger you are experiencing. Eat when your body
tells you to eat. That will be every 4 to 5 hours on a low-carb diet.

And eating the odd large meal in a restaurant or generally eating a
large low-carb meal (ie high calorie meal) is much, much less of a
problem than going hungry all day long. By a far cry. Just eat the big
meal and then go back to your regular way of eating. But going hungry

  8. I was thinking from JC's post on the Pumpkin Pie that he must not ANY
food since he has a comment on any food mentioned as causing obesity,
and then I see how he is successful.

    HE NEVER EATS!

that would explain the foggy brain and redundant replies.
I still can't figure out the fascination with sending these autobot
    replies over and over again.

  10. In adjusting to a maintenance mode I am embracing social dinners with
friends. I eat low carb. My problem is that I am adapted to eating small
meals through the day, and then nothing after 6 or 7 PM. Our social eating
is usually about 8 PM. If I add 1000 calories in the evening twice a week,
then I need to cut back at other times to come out at break even. Calories
    do count.

I'm familiar with the book. I find that Dr. A erred in his rejection of
counting calories. LC works down to a plateau. I am below that plateau
    because I counted calories.

Someday, I'll drop another 10 pounds, but for now, I'm working at
break-even. In some ways it is more difficult than my weightloss regimen
    was.

If you are eating nothing after 6 or 7 pm then that is a major problem.
You are going without food for at least 12 hours of the day. That means
that by the time you get up in the morning you will have low blood
sugars and your body will not have been able to use up or lose any fat
for at least 7 or 8 hours. You are losing the advantage of a low carb
diet for about 1/3 of your 24 hour day.

I eat a low-carb snack anywhere from 9 to maybe 10:30 in the evening.
That way I am not starved by morning.

    and eating low-carb.

If you had stuck to the plan you would have gotten past the plateau
sooner. Look, you did not put on that weight overnight and you will not
take it off overnight. It takes time.

If you want to jump start the weight loss and get over a plateau, what
you need to do is do some strength training and put on a bit more lean
body mass, ie. muscles. Starving yourself of "calories" is
counter-productive because you will start the same cycle that that
every low-fat/low-calorie dieter runs into. You will lose a few pounds
and think that you've succeeded and then you will gain it back, usually

Calories are a confusing distraction that does not work in the real
    world.

Count the carbs. Eat three low-carb meals a day. Eat two low-carb
snacks, one in mid-afternoon and one between 9:00 and 10:00 pm. You do
not have to go hungry for 12 hours out of 24 to lose weight. In fact,
going hungry at all, is counter productive and is probably what is
    holding you back right now.

  13. You: "in the morning you will have low blood sugars"
Cubit: Morning BG is about 90. No low blood sugar here.

You assert that going too many hours at night without food leads to: "your
body will not have been able to use up or lose any fat for at least 7 or 8
    hours" This is absurd.

You: "I eat a low-carb snack anywhere from 9 to maybe 10:30 in the evening.
That way I am not starved by morning."
Cubit: Night time hunger and eating is generally regarded as an eating
problem. I do not feel starved in the morning.

You: "Calories are a confusing distraction that does not work in the real
    world."
Cubit: The only reason people report failure of caloric restriction is that
they cheat. The body is designed to prevent low calorie eating. The
calorically restricted generally become delusional about portion sizes.

You: "In fact, going hungry at all, is counter productive and is probably
what is holding you back right now."
Cubit: I am at normal weight. I'm doing maintenance because I had a biopsy
done, and it is normal for me to be bleeding internally for about 2 months.
Losing weight while the body repairs itself seemed like a bad idea. I don't
have cancer, but will need a minor operation in a month or two. Someday,
I'll drop an additional 10 pounds, but not just yet. I do avoid hunger when
    doing weightloss.

  14. Cubit, give that giant omelet a chance. On many mornings, I eat what
would be a terrifying heart attack on a plate, like 8 eggs with some
lightly fried bacon. The effect of this is wanting to eat much less

Cubit, give that giant omelet a chance. On many mornings, I eat what
would be a terrifying heart attack on a plate, like 8 eggs with some
lightly fried bacon. The effect of this is wanting to eat much less
throughout the day. That's what LC does to us, we are able to regulate
how much we eat, throughout the day.

    Me too.

I just stocked up on a bunch of t-bones on sale, and intentionally
picked the packages that had cuts that were at least a pound or more
    per steak.

Anymore, I eat one, maybe two meals a day.

I'd much rather sit down in the evening and enjoy a fabulous meal,
than snack mindlessly all day. A little discipline here and there =
    freedom.

I don't like to eat when I'm working, so I skip breakfast and lunch most of
    the time.

Ditto. I've got enough time between jobs to eat, but there's always
something else I'd rather be doing.

And you wonder why your diet, your weight and your life is so screwed
up. Start eating properly and see what happens with all three. You
    might be pleasantly surprised.
