Having read the article I find that against all reason I can't come up
with an objection to the idea. What would be wrong with Carnedd Uchaf
Gwenllian, I wonder? A gradual name change wouldn't be too bad, would
it?

fanatics with an obsession about a princess from long ago want to change
it. I wonder if any of the Gwenllian supporters club have even been to
the top of the hill they want to rename?

Maybe not if it's natural, but I'm not in agreement with people just
changing the name for the sake of it. It is what it is, because that's what
people have always called it. You can't just decide that Big Ben should now
be known as Fat Freddy. If people just start calling it that, fair enough,
but what gives anyone the right to rename something that already has an
existing historical name?

Actually, one of my first thoughts was, if they want to rename a hill, why
not pick a hill with a boring common name, like Bryn Du (Black Hill) or
Mynydd Mawr (Big Mountain). But then I realised, Carnedd Uchaf is a boring
name! It just means "Highest Cairn", not that different to "Wettest Bog" or
"Greenest Tree".

I still don't agree with the name change proposal, but it's not like they'd
be changing something distinctive like Pen yr Ole Wen or Pen Llithrig y
Wrach!

Who knows? Probably not proper walkers though. if they were they'd
probably be more aware of the significance of changing it.

Well they used to, but these days I'm not so sure. A lot of evolution seems
to stem from clerical errors.

I've probably spent more time camping next to it than you though! Many
times I've camped at Llyn y Fan Fawr I haven't even bothered to climb to the
summit. So in terms of sheer time spent adjacent to the summit... :-P

Depends on the meaning of adjacent. My campsite is not that much further
away (and I have spent well over 100 nights there by now). I could
probably get to the summit of Fan Hir in under an hour if I put my mind
to it.

"Right next to", i.e. at the lake below the summit, so the summit is visible
to me the whole time I camp there. So I've spent an awful lot of time
looking at it and photographing it, if not actually bagging it that often.

Yours is some 3 miles away down in the valley, whereas mine is just a few
hundred yards away up at 2000ft.
