Ive always been a runner however short distance which I guess hasnt been a
problem as far as over exertion.
Ive recently joined an athletics club although my training hasnt been pushed
up too much as far as time and distance goes. Ive started doing interval
runs and running more regularly so therefore I suppose giving myself lest
rest.
I use Nike Air Max shoes, purely because previously I had adidas and had
joint problems and a Doctor reccomended I purchase a shoe with maximum
cushioning. Compared to anything else Nike Air Max has seemed to served me
well. I also had a short bout with asics and still favoured the Nike shoes.
I also do roll my foot in my stride and I say that because the outer heel of
my shoe wears out first and is noticeable.
I hate to say this, but I learned the hard way to not take the advice of
a foot doctor when it comes to shoes. When I followed a podiatrists
advice, my foot problems got WORSE.
When I went totally against his advice and switched to mocassins for my
work shoes for about 6 months (they wore out after that, holes in the
soles), my foot problems went away. I now wear Earth Shoes at the
suggestion of one of the ER docs. He wears them too. ;-) Have had no
foot problems since.
The podiatrist had this thing about wearing stiff soles so the foot did
not bend during walking. I was getting a calcium deposit, causing pain,
at the mid-foot to the outside where the tarsal bone from the little toe
met the metatarsal. He told me to never wear bare feet.
Well, I went on vacation for two weeks and hardly wore shoes at all, and
all of my foot pain cleared up. So much for THAT theory!
Mama nature knows best it seems...
Anyway, for suggestions on a good cross training shoe, ask here or ask a
doctor that specializes in sports issues, or a good coach.
Cheers!
