  1. Some nouns have an objective reality, regardless of what you call it. A goat
remains a goat, even if you call it an elephant. You can even firmly,
sincerely, believe it is an elephant, but such belief doesn't change the
    goat's reality.

Other nouns have no objective reality, except as defined by each individual.
Athlete, for example. Some believe an athlete is anyone who participates in
an athletic event. Other require some degree of hard work and effort to be
an athlete. Others require a given degree of success at the competition
    level.

It's entirely subjective, and makes for an astondingly boring debate.

    So...

    SIT DOWN, SHUT UP!!

    You know who you are.

Some people think their crappy choice of a dog...a pit bull for example...is
the best choice. When everybody knows that a "mostly" lab puppy is far
superior. You people with crappy dog tastes know who you are.

And my dog is very athletic. I'd say more athletic than yours. Which means
yours isn't an athletic dog, therefore not an athlete. More of a wannabe
    athlete couch potato dog.

Look, I tried to bring the discussion around to your nude butt sticking
to a vinyl beanbag chair, but you didn't want to go there for some reason.

I read an interesting line today that made me think of you. It was a
Jewish woman scoffing at her brother for putting on airs in Europe - he
was riding polo ponies - and she quoted some aphorisms: "If a poor man
eats a chicken then one of them was sick. If a Jew rides a horse then
one of them is an ass." I don't necessarily agree with her, but it made
    me think of you.

It's worth disclosing here that my [goyish] father used to raise
thoroughbreds and I thoroughly hate horses because of the sacrifice
being "horsey people" required of our family. I also hate it because
I'm a capitalist and the thought of trying to make money off of anything
that eats and has vet bills is a laughably bad idea.

That seems unfair; it's clearly not the horses' fault.

I agree. That's why I disclosed my personal baggage that colors my
    feelings about horses.

I do try to be fair.

"Athlete" does have objective reality. I've beaten this to death already.

    Some believe

As you argue quite eloquently, sometimes, it happens that some "beliefs" are
    simply better than others.

As a general rule, the ones that have some factual basis are usually better.

As another general rule, claiming that ones own belief is "better", without
having factual basis in support that claim is simply hubris.

Oh, only a fool would believe that coffee ice cream is better than
chocolate ice cream. Have you got any facts to back up your absurd
claim that coffee ice cream is better than chocolate ice cream? I doubt
    it.

"Best ice cream" clearly has an objectively definable reality, and that
    reality is CHOCOLATE!

Look, you made me raise my voice 🙁

Absolutely. Chocolate ripple with nuts in fact with hot fudge sauce.
