Thursday Stage

In the 95 version, I recall that Pantani attacked Indurain on the
last climb and got a gap which remained constant on the entire climb.
It was interesting to watch, because, despite their completely
different
styles and body types, they were going exactly the same speed. I expect
there could be the exact same showdown between Ullrich and Rassmussen.

I think Vino goes again, then it's going to be interesting to see who
attacks out of the 3rd-10th place riders.

I hope Armstrong will let it all hang out and attack on this stage winning
because of the uphill finish. It's a perfect stage for him, imo.

Lokks like you and I are thinking along the same lines, because the
gap is really in the grey zone between them on the TT. If either one
could get 30 seconds to a minute that'd seal it, but as it stands it's
a tossup. I'm just not sure how we could see the rest of the field
allowing a shootout to happen. I think DC would give both of them some
slack, just because Jan is far enough back, and they aren't sweating
Rasmussen.
Got to love the fact that we still have serious considerations to talk
about.
I'm picking O'Grady to snag the Green before it's over, but I wouldn't
cry over Thor either.

Bogerd will ride the final for M.Rasmussen, who will counter attack
when T-Mobile does their "thing".

Other riders with a chance to win is riders who's traditionally dooing
well in Fleche Wallone, Liege Bastonge Lige, Amstel, Meistershaft von
Zürich and Giro Lombardia.

Vinokurov could do it, but he won't because he has to support Ulrich
when he attacks M.Rasmussen (and fails)

Basso and Armstrong won't win it either, the climb is not long enough
for them.

Evans, Mazzoleni, Rasmussen, Merckx (Beligian national day, he and
Lotto will try for shure) are my favorites. Herras might try as well,
apperantly he is getting better and he needs to show somthing.
Kachehckin will be there as well, as will some one from Euskatel.

Tough call. Lance is playing a solid game of chess thus far and could easily
continue the same strategy. But it's not inconceivable that he could get
himself into position to win this stage. It's not perfect for his style, but
might be close enough. I'm not betting the farm on it.

Well, I don't know how much Vino is still working for his team 🙂 But the
others won't let Vino go. He's too high on the GC. Also, it's possible that
Discovery will keep Kachehckin from threatening Popovich if they don't have
to expend too much energy.

Merckx is a good bet.

Serrano, Pellizotti, Vasseur, Voeckler, Da Cruz, and Martinez.

The last climb is nasty. I think Merckx will need to hit the bottom of the
last climb with a bit of a lead to make it to the line first.

unfortunately they don't :-(

M.Rasmussen made a huge error: He didn't manage to position himself at
Basso's, Ulrich's or Armstrong's wheel before the action started. His
abilty to jump when Basso accelerated was simply blocked by Vinukurov,
Leipheimer and Mazzoleni. Evans snd Ulrich wasn't blocked and managed
to jump.
