The position did disable him, the gap was made very quickly. He shure
would have had a better chance of keeping up with Ulrich, if he had
gotten on to his wheel right away. Ulrich struggled during the whole
climb as well.

listning to a radio broadcast, because i was at work. Wasn't it the day

Indurain's teams had to work hard all day to limmit their loss to
Jalabert.
It was a briliant tactital move from Manolo Saiz, since especially Riis,
and to a lesser degree Indurain, had to work hard all day to defend
themseves from Jalabert, while Züelle who where in 2nd place didn't
have to work or defend himself from Riis's attacks.

Dumbass -

That day was interestng because Banesto cracked, Jalabert was in
virtual yellow and the Banesto DS had to buy help from a couple other
teams to keep the race in control. One of the best days ever in the
90's if only because it was one of the few times Indurain was
threatened.

Shortly after Mancebo blockes his way as well. When Basso accelerates
Popovitch swings out, but Hincapie stays in the line for a while and
blocks the riders behinds him as well. Weather it's intentionally or
not i don't know, but it's a pretty smart thing to do - I guess it's
experiance from the springclassics.
To me it seems like Rasmussens lacks experience in roadracing and
rideing these kind of finals - He's an ex MTB rider and he usually
sits way back (trying to loose time), or in a brakeaway when the
peloton hits climbs this difficult on such a narrow road. Positioning
yourself is somthing you lern riding the northern races in march,
april and may. A guy like Evans has lerned this from the belgian
riders at Mapai/Quickstep and now Davitamon-Lotto.

If you go to Foxsports and click on the TDF "photos," you'll see a pic
of Rasmussen in all his spotted glory - his helmet, shorts & top of
course, but now he has spotted gloves and spotted sunglass frames.

Yep, 95 was a very interesting year:

The first TT where Riis almost beat Indurain, but didn't because his
director sportif forgot to tell him that he had a small lead on him
with 3-4km to go.

Once's agressive riding - Riis constantly trying to catch Jalabert and
drop Züelle.
The funny thing was that Indurain didn't fear Züelle, who was 2nd. after
a longdistance brakeaway on the first mountain stage. The threats
came from the riders in 3rd, and 4th. GC: Riis and Jalabert.
