best... or shud I broil it instead?
in America you are not far from a backyard grill! Check your
neighbor's backyard...I bet he has one. Tell him you want to cook a
steak on his grill...he will let you!
Unfortunately, our neighborhood association has outlawed grills as fire
hazards... you literally have to have the grill in the street (in the way of
traffic) in order to meet the fire code.
I wound up pan-frying the steak with a bit of Tiger Sauce and Tabasco® as
seasoning--- the sauces caramelized and provided a bit of blackening and the
steak turned out perfect with just a soupçon of pink on the inside.
I also caramelized thinly sliced yellow onion in extra-virgin -- adding
crushed black pepper at the beginning and adding thinly sliced garlic cloves
as the onion was almost ready to remove from the heat.
Next, sautéé some shiitake mushrooms in butter... while rolling some cherry
tomatoes around in the onion pan after removing the onion to get the skins
seared, then did the same with some red chili peppers, blackening on two
sides.
Made for a nice presentation and an excellent meal!
