Hadn't planned to enter that one, but I could easily be tempted if I
get the nod from my wife (I'll probably also need her to give me a lift
over there, but maybe if I ask her nicely... you never know...)

Which distance are you doing? If I were going to do it, I'd have to do
the 200 - wouldn't be worth the trip over there to do either of the
shorter rides. Although if I rode to the start and back home again
afterwards, that would make it an interesting day out whichever
distance I did. I'd probably have to leave home at about 5am, though.

What's the course like? I got the route through for the Invicta 400 the
other day - I made the mistake of assuming that because it has no AAA
points that it must be a fairly flat ride, but of course just five
miles into the route you have to go up One Tree Hill. Hmm.

Still haven't had the route through from Rob for the Invicta 300, which
is next weekend, also starting in Meopham - must chase that up...

down to Hartfield via Ide Hill I think (down) then over Gill's Lap (AKA
Gallion's Lap in the Winnie the Pooh stories, highest point of Ashdown
forest and a welcome change from doing it as an evening hilly TT) After
that it sort of went towards Wrotham then up Vigo Hill ;-O

I actually found a 600 easier than the 3 400's I have ridden, you are
comitted to riding all weekend and as long as you keep up a reasonable
pace you can deposit lots of hours in the "sleep-bank" which is usually
included and still finish with time to spare, not so easy on a 4; I
think I had about 1 1/2 hrs left last year on a 4 after a Z stop and
lots of punctures.

In this "civilised" city in a "civilised" country, I have not yet
located a 24hour supermarket. There are two within 5 miles of my
parent's village. They may not be open 24-7 but they manage 24-6 for

Started OK (if you like 90 miles into a headwind) which finished
absolutely everyone long before the Devil's Staircase (which amazingly
I rode up , how do they build roads like that? that did for me for the
rest of the ride).
Wales then threw its finest weather at us all the way to Tregaron where
mercifully we got a tail wind all the way home. The descent from the
highest point above Rhayader ranks as one of the best if coldest times
on a bike I have ever had. After that it was case of grannying
virtually every small incline. Finally got back at 0100, I had to fight
another rider for the last Gold Grimpeur badge.
Comiserations to the poor chap who wiped out mysteriously 4 miles from
the end and was taken off in an ambulance concussed, to go all that way
and not finish.
And well done Jack Easton who pitched up at 0700 having spent much of
the night in a bus stop.
Never again, 2AAA points on a 300k requires a lot of pain. Scenery was
nice though.
