To be honest, I'm not really the person to ask, but... that sounds about
right. And brake and gear cables, of course.

Cassette lockring nut thing. Pedal spanner, perhaps. Someone else would

I want to keep the cost reasonable since I splashed out a lot on my best
bike - and do not want to use it in this dreadful summer weather. I would
not be bothered if this bike got absolutely filthy when I went out on it.

You would need:
Allen keys, Probably 4.5 & 6mm
Bottom bracket tool.
Cable cutters
Chain Whip & cassette tool
All of which are worth having if you want to do some maintenance.

This is a very tempting offer but I think I will make my old Olmo last
another winter. After all pushing all that weight around must have some
training effect 🙂

Groupset doesn't usually include a seatpost or a headset. Also you'll
probably need bottle cages and a pump. On a winter bike you may also
want mudguards.

Do consider a second hand one - will be a lot cheaper and perfectly good
for winter use.

I got my LBS to install the bottom race of my headset and the
star-fangled nut, both of which do need special tools. I tightened my
bottom bracket with a Stillson, having the right C spanner would have
been better. You need a special tool for the lockring of the cassette,
but it should not be expensive.

But this particular Ribble offer includes both, and the headset and
forks are fitted for you, which I would imagine accounts for all the
most difficult parts of building a bike.

If it's an aheadset you'll need to remember to buy the stem as well as
the handlebars. Bar tape is usually quite useful too.

Again, the Ribble offer includes mudguards, but pumps and bottle cages
are well worth remembering. Add to that a saddle pouch for carrying
tools, spare inner tubes, too.

Anyway, that particular Ribble offer ended on Friday but they do
frequently have similar deals - I'm on their email list so I get
bombarded with them. If I see any more similarly interesting offers in
future I'll try to remember to pass them on before they expire...
