Please consider changing your name back to the more familiar "Qui si
    parla Campagnolo".

Looking for "Peter Chisolm" isn't nearly as fun 🙂

    Cheers

    Dear Werehatrack,

Could you remind us what they were?

Most likely helmets and greasing of tapers. (Although spoke prep might
    qualify).

    Those will do.

    Dear Bartleby,

Surely you do not mean to persist in that mulish vagary?

Is use of the weed so pervasive there that "coffee" has come to mean
    "marijuana" or "hashish" in Denmark?

I go to a coffee shop for coffee, and expresso is just a sub-group.

I knew what he meant . . . and he knew what I meant!

"Coffee Shop" is the local slang for the legalized marijuana/hash bars
which, in fact, serve coffee. They are 'themed,' much in the way that
our bars might be: sports, reggae, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Jazz,
    etc.

When my friend and I, along with his Dutch girlfriend, were last in
Holland, she gave us a /world/ of grief about wanting to visit the
coffee shops, calling it such a stereotypically American thing to do.
We convinced her to stop in for a few minutes . . . to translate all
the Dutch being spoken inside ;-)

. . . but, for the record, I was talking about espresso :-)

It's even the standard expression for it. It's not legal btw, but it's
"allowed" in most places. In my town it's illegal.

I even didn't know that they serve coffee there! I've never been inside one.

It's encredible what one does to improve upon his foreign language skills!

Ahhh.. I have a very fine Krups Espresso machine, that I feed Columbia
coffee beans from the best coffee importer in Holland. It has one
disadvantage, just like my taste was spoiled when I lived in France, which
causes me to avoid restaurants in Holland, the expresso machine spoiled my
coffee taste and I can't drink 99,9% of all coffee served in restaurants
    and/or cafe's.

Actually, the original postings were about Holland, not Denmark, which are
    two different places.

In Amsterdam a "coffee shop" sells dope (and coffee); if you just want
    coffee, go to a cafe.

    Right!
Denmark has another King, another currency, another capital, another
    language and so on.

I was just wondering what we would say in stead of coffee shop...
In Holland we say: "let's have coffee somewhere". When you say "let's go to
a coffee shop" you'll be taken to a place where soft drugs are being sold.

This was the first episode of the Rough Guide to The Netherlands.
