Jusr diet changes so far although my dictor seems to be warning me that the medication is inevitable. He figures I have a genetic predisposition to high LDL levels. I figure once I get my knee back in shape so I can do some serious training I should be able to lower it some more. I'm refining my diet more as I go too. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Just got my results back from the doc and I am back to normal. Relatively speaking.
from 8.2 mmol/L to 5.7 mmol/L in 2 moths or so.
The works out to 317 mg/dL to 220 mg/dL Not quite where I want it but a whole lot closer.
I've made quite a few changes in diet such as more fish, fewer starches and more salads and vegetables.
I've also lost about 6 lbs since I started dieting and plan to lose another 10 or so.
Most excellent. Added fish oils?
Thanks, I have been taking the cod liver oil but dropped from 2 to 1 tbsn per day. Partly calories and partly not wanting to overdo the Vit A. as you pointed out regrding the toxicity of it.
Once that's gon I'm going to try to find better oils. Salmon, halibut etc. Especially in an Omega blend.
I've been eating a lot of fish lately too. Both Tuna and regular frozen fillets (sole, cod, pollock, whiting) -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.

Ah, I assume you're skeptical of the benefits of cholesterol medication.

Wow, yeah, 2 tablespoons is a good bit there. Probably a good idea that you dropped it to 1 or less for longer-term use, but the Vitamin D of course is the great thing about cod liver oil, as a good many peer-reviewed studies are beginning to scream about how the RDA is too low. While Vitamin D can be toxic at higher levels, and thus getting a blood marker of 25-hydroxyvitamin D would be optimal, many people in this country seem to be deficient. Just a small number of the seemingly exploding number of recent Vitamin D studies coming out:

No, but I prefer to try to manage this with diet and exercise first. I already take a large enough cocktail of medications. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.

Nicely done Bob! You still using Fitday? I am, and like it.
Thanks. Yes I am and if nothing else it really shows how easy it is to take in more fat than you planned on. Unfortunately I have put back 3.5 pounds in the past 2 days. I assume it;s water but steps are being taken. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.

More important, what was and is your HDL/LDL ratio? A more complete picture of your CVD risk would be to have C-reactive protein and Homocysteine checked.

The cold water fish have greater omega-3 oils.
I've never paid much attention to which fish come from where. I'd guess N. Atlantic fish would be more cold water tan Pacific fish. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.
I have added several custom foods using the nutritional labels.
Custom foods, eh??
Are you a part time deity??
Could you make me up some gold while you are at it.
Thanks Bob. 🙂
Better than that, I'll email it to you. ;-)
Seriously, fitday gives you the option of adding foods not in their database so I have added a few that I have bought. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.

A more complete check will probably be done later. Maybe when I have a complete check up in the fall. The ratio is about 1.5 HDL and 4.2 LDL based on the last figures I got. -- Bob Mann Help save trees. Wipe your ass with an owl.

Most docs either don't know or care about the last two, so you will have to request them, if not demand them.
