Jim, I thought Led Zeppelin had something to do with the blimp that crashed
in the 1930's - was Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin also a rock singer?

Jim, I thought Led Zeppelin had something to do with the blimp that crashed
in the 1930's - was Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin also a rock singer?
That was just a lot of hot air, that got carried away, got shot down
in flames, and then came down to Earth with a bang!!

Heavy rock began waaay before PG.

LZ first hit in 1969 about the same time as Black Sabbath.
Cream was doing relatively heavy at least 2-3 years before that as was
Hendrix.
I think Physical Graffiti came out in 1974 by which time there were
all sorts of heavy rock bands around.

1. Willie Dixon didn't sue - his son did for the estate.
2. It wasn't a rearrangent at all - it was a basically a cover of the
Willie Dixon tune. It was a huge screw-up by Zep, which both Page and
Plant later apologized for. Page said it was a cover and they just let the
credit thing go by without doing anything.
3. Zep invented heavy metal? Give me a break. There was a ton of metal
going on in the late 60's before the band even put together. Page was
playing heavy metal with other bands prior to creating Zep. Zep was a
giant of heavy metal, but they certainly weren't at the forefront of
creating it.
4. Zep was a decent band. They weren't innovative or original enough to be
considered by most THE best band of all time. Like most heavy metal bands
they borrowed heavily from the blues, using very heavy amplification and
distortion effects.

And better. Physical Graffiti more or less marked the end of Zep as a
hugely popular band. They had been overtaken by Deep Purple, Slade, etc.
who in turn fell to dirty little Angus and a host of others in the late
70's.
For longevity it is hard to fault AC/DC. Get a sound, create an image and
stick to your guns.
