  1. Any other 'racing types' out there suffering a
Severe Lack of Motivation like me?

I've had a week or so off from training and
the week before that, my training was also reduced.

I have to cough up $200 or so for a new license
now and I'm questioning my motivation into '05.

Is it just me? Are the rest of you all pumped up
and ready to kick [censored] in the new year? Or feeling
    flat from the holiday revelry?

No. But I am having a severe lack of motivation about getting some
    work done.

Don't worry - it's good to have a break from the usual training/racing routine. I'm sure that when we all start posting our race reports, you'll get hungry again!

    Ritch

PS. Setting some goals for the season might help... an upgrade perhaps? Mine is two-fold: (1) Win again in B-grade, (2) Qualify for Forster Ironman.

Yeah.. totally know what youre saying Hipmeister....

Even tho I had a good training period over the xmas break (ie not having to do it pre/post work but when I felt like it whenever during the day) I fell into that same deep black rut. I only started to come out of it on Monday when I went out on the mtb for the first time in too long a time (saw a massive goanna - HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!) and then into the gym for the 1st time in 3 wks yesterday (something about shifting heavy plates of lead around and making ur muscles ache.....)

This week I pulled out all the old mtb mags with anything on 12/24 racing in 'em, read reviews of duallies, ate more chocolate than necessary for antioxidant intake, started planning accommodation etc for a couple of races in April/May.... it seems to be working.

I got my first ever crit on Sat so hopefully that will top my revs up and get me in full swing again (when the wind stops and the sun comes out!!)

I guess the deep black rut diminishes eventually with wear, and a change of tyres to get over the rut can be helpful... and if all else fails, drink yourself stupid, and listen to the mars volta on ur ipod :p (did I say that?? hope my employer isnt reading this!!!! responsible drinking responsible drinking!!!)

I'm pumped, warmup triathlon this weekend then my first Olympic distance
in 2 weeks. Have stuck to my training plan (well mostly) for 5 months,
set some PB's in training over the past few weeks, and some time trials
late next week in each discipline to get me really fired up. If I can't
race at a decent speed along Beach Rd after all those BR's in the hills
I'm gonna be very unhappy (of course I won't have Gags or Blah to tow me
    along).

No doubt part of the post Xmas epidemic. Ointment helps - tho' I suspect that its efficacy depends upon who rubs it in...

i had a major dose of the "this is all pretty pointless and meaningless" at our recent club presentations. I was one of two single ppl there, which was weirding me out anyway.... so everyone's with their significant others, admiring their shiny trophies, lots of congrats and kissing etc.. I took mine home and showed the cat....

So I had to figure out why the h3ll I do this thing.... not for the shiny bit of plastic at the end (altho thats nice), or for someone else (cos there is no one else), not to prove to someone else (see previous point) but why??? Cos it keeps me sane: I love the endorphin and adrenalin rushes, love the mental and physical work behind being at the pointy end (when I can!!!!), I love the speed, the solitude, the companionship and comraderie, working hard and getting results, being fit, the funny tan lines, the sound of the chain whizzing, the wind thru the spokes, dragging cars off at lights, bunnyhopping [censored] road surfaces when they leap up at you at the last minute, swerving dinosaur sized goannas, screaming along tight windy tracks thru the bush, grinding up hills for awesome views, wearing cool sunnies, having the hugest quads of any female at the gym, being able to eat lots of chocolate and not worry (too much) about putting on weight, riding 100+ km 1) for something to do and 2) cos you can, cos it sure beats running for a sport.. .. .. .. ..

I ran over a dead one of those a week back, and a good thousand

Good list of cool things.. 'cept maybe the 'female' quads and my chain

It's the road racing specifically I'm talking about. I really only race in

    Dave,

Is that the Tri at Mordialoc this weekend.
If it is I'll be down there as well, playing the part of Handler for the
wife who is competing. Seems fair that I do this since she did such a great
job of being my Handler and Pusher at the two Victorian Christmas Track
Carnivals that I participated in last week. I'm not too fussed about
missing out on an early morning sunday ride since it's the day after the Vic
Track TT Champs (500m from a standing start in less than 39secs, well thats
the plan) and I'll probably still be a little sore. I might take the road
bike down to Mordy just in case I get the urge to ride home via the final
stage of the Bay Crit Series.

Are you doing the Mini or the Enduro(Mini x 2) Tri?
The other half is doing the mini. She's still working on building up her
    running fitness.

YOu're with the *wrong* club dude - our club gives away trophies to any good looking woman :p , wanna be tryhard, winner, placegetter, consistent turn-upperer etc..

There is something inherently BORING about riding on the road all the time, particularly by yourself.... and dodging cars constantly is NOT NICE - bad for stress levels!!

When's your next race Hipstar???? We need a report pls!!!!

Enduro for me. Did it last year and loved it. The second swim is great
because there's no bodies to swim through, because the field is really
well spread by then. Also, having 5 transitions is great practice for
the real event in 2 weeks, Olympic Distance (gulp). Will keep an eye out
for you but may struggle if you're not in Richmond Cyclery gear. I've
heard they're startign both events together so if your other half isn't
a strong swimmer she might want to sit right at the back at the start,
that first 300m swim is a mess.

It's funny how we seem to identify each other by bikes and clothing isn't
it. Put us in the same room in civvies and we probably would not recognise
each other at all. Hopefully you are with your bike if I see you cos I'll
need some sort of confirmation its definately you.

The website as at yesterday now has the start times for each event
separated. As far as the swim leg goes I don't think she will have any
difficulty. A 300m swim is pretty short for her. Shes quite capable of
swimming 2km at quite a reasonable speed. In the last mini tri she and a
few others caught and passed a big chunk of the wave ahead of them. From
memory she was 4th out of the water for the Open Female Category which I
think had around 72 competitors. She lost 5 places on the bike leg and a
further 4 on the run to finish in 13th place. She was pretty happy with
that considering it was her first race in 3 years. She also commented on
how hard the bike to run transition was compared to the last time she did a
triathlon. She's now done a bit of "bike in Tacx trainer to Treadmill"
training and as a result is now much more comfortable with this transition.

Good luck for tomorrow for your race.
