Agreed.. but it's not something I generally watch and only occasionally
used to catch a glimpse of while flicking across channels. Between one
glimpse and the next it seemed Clarkson had taken over Top Gear and turned
it into its current completely stupid format, and all the other 'old'
presenters - at least, Tiff ' and Vicky ' had buggered off to do Channel
5's Fifth Gear. Don't know how all that came about..
The BBC decided that Top Gear in it's previous guise, which consisted of
various middle class twits and [censored] like Tiff, Quentin and Vicky speeding
about in a variety of highly priced cars which are beyond the reach of most
of this country's populace, was a dated format. For once, I applude the BBC.
C5 lazily enticed all the Top Gear presenters over to them to copy, lock
stock and barrel, the old BBC format.
Unlike most who have commented on this thread so far, I actual quite like
the current Top Gear format - it's more entertaining than the old show,
which
you can still see on C5. I dont have any interest in cars at all,
incidently.
As for Clarkson, yes he's an arrogant big [censored], but you have to take
everything
he says with a dump-truck-fill of salt. He went up in my estimation when he
did the IK Brunel programme on the BBC - he showed a wide knowledge
and appreciation of a subject other than motoring. I had thought he'd make
an [censored] of it, given his usual comments on things like trains.
