  1. After five years, you'd think I knew what I was doing, but I've got
    forgetful, or maybe just lazy.

What with one thing and another, I think I need to do straight Induction
again. Can anyone please point me to that useful page with The Rules on
    it?

    Meat, fish, oil, unlimited, right?

Eggs, shellfish, green leafy veg, count the carbs, and keep it under 20,
    right?

No fruit, nuts, dairy (?) yes?

    Drink water, take supplements, ok.

    Have I forgotten anything?

Don't bother to tell me to count the carbs in coffee/tea because I never
    touch them.

Um, you only eat enough to keep from being hungry. You don't have to
limit these for other reasons, but they're certainly not "unlimited".

Heavy cream is OK, nuts may or may not be OK depending on which edition
of the book you read. Mine says OK as long as you end up with 20g
    carbs.

Exercise. The big three points of Atkins are diet, supplements, and
exercise. If you're not doing all three, you're not doing Atkins.

    Here is the basic...

You will eat 20 grams of carbs per day. You will eat at least three cups of
green veggies per day. This will form the bulk of your carb intake.

You will drink at least a half gallon of water per day. You will exercise.

If you do all that, you will probably lose weight. But there is more to the
diet than losing weight. It is explained clezrly how to establish a
liferstyle that will allow you to control your weight and health forever.

So yes, read the book. You will lean a lot more that way.

Blimey, Roger, what's wrong with asking for information? Have I

I'm faintly annoyed at having to explain myself, but if it helps clear
    things up, here goes.

I can't re-read the book because I don't have it any more. I lent it
out and never got it back. I really don't want to go and buy another
copy because I am not working, being a full-time mum, and am seriously
broke. I don't think that trying to get it from a library is a
particularly good idea, partly because of the stress (do NOT
underestimate this) of dragging a stroppy Toddler With Attitude there
and have her either scream the place down if she's not let out of her
buggy, or have her wreck the place - I am not exaggerating here - if she
is. And that's if they actually have the book in stock. If they don't,
then the waiting list could be months. I speak from experience.

If I had the book, it could also take me months to read it. I used to
read at least a book a day, but I just have no time to myself any more.
It's one of the most difficult things for me, adapting to parenthood,
that my favourite pastime of curling up with a good book and a cat in my
lap has gone out the window. I am on the go, running around after a
toddler, sixteen hours a day, without a minute to go to the bathroom,
let alone read a book. When she finally goes down at night, I have to
set to doing all the chores that needed doing during the day. I can't
remember when I last had an unbroken night's sleep, or a stretch of
sleep greater than four hours. I am *tired*, and my ability to absorb
information is much reduced. Some nights I swear I am asleep before I
get into bed. I have been reading my current book for seven weeks, and
I'm still only on page 37.

Maybe it would be good to read the book again, and I'm sure I will in
due course, but I need to know what to do *now*. Today. Not in
umpty-ump months' time. Because I feel ill. Rotten. Awful. And
experience tells me that the most constructive thing I can do for myself
    is eat properly.

    All right my love?

Think I'm ok on that score, ta. Fourteen hours a day running round
after a toddler, my bumcheeks never get a chance to touch a chair. And
it's "pick me up - put me down" all day, so my upper body gets quite a
workout, LOL. The funny thing is that when she was born she was less
than 8 lbs, and she felt heavy and I couldn't stand up holding her, but
now she's nearer 30 lbs and she doesn't feel very heavy. So I think I'm
doing a kind of weight-bearing exercise, but I might end up looking like
    Popeye.

  10. Hey M
I have been on Atkins 12 years, over the summer my mother was very ill
and died, with all the stress I gained 7 pounds back and was trying to
lose it but being on Maintenance for so long I forgot the rules of
induction. I bought the book and what a lot of people don't realize that
the book is very incomplete or contradicting. (Essence of seltzer is a
good example, where it says no carb but flavored seltzer has a lot of
    different artificial sweeteners, confusing.....
I kept trying and trying to get it right and would write about my
approach here. Well, let me tell you. some of these people are jerks. I
have belonged to a few list in my days but this place is a zoo. I can
picture some of these people working for the suicide hotline and giving
out instructions... (Oh! you don't have the noose around your neck tight
enough!!!) or ( I think to do the job right you should put the gun on
    automatic......
But hang in there. I found that there are a lot of nice people here and
    some try very hard......
    Warren
PS. I travel a lot in the UK, what part are you in ???

Yeah, you can. Especially something like a big juicy prime rib, which
has a lot of calories relative to its filling-up-factor. Canned
chicken is NOT an overeating problem for me, but a juicy baked ham
    would be.

Mostly its because dairy has carbs, and you want to get most of your
carbs from veggies. Plus cheese tends to be high calorie and low
fiber, so you can eat more than is useful if you don't control it.

I think if it were a nice slab of medium rare prime rib, I could...besides
that, no. Anyway, prime rib at my fave restaurant is a few and far between

Lots of caution on the need to clean the bottles to keep bacteria down.

Professor Henry Petroski has described most "Sports Bottles" as
excellent "Spit Suckers" which almost guarantee that your bottles become
breeding grounds for bacteria (your own).

Similar warnings have been posted on various "Your Health" spots on the
internet and in the conventional media.

life! Stop spoiling her or him. When you are home get an expandable gate
and put it across a doorway where there are toys for the child to play with,
and let him entertain himself for awhile. There is no need to be constantly
picking up any child. If you must, you can sit nearby and read, or do your

life! Stop spoiling her or him. When you are home get an expandable gate
and put it across a doorway where there are toys for the child to play with,
and let him entertain himself for awhile. There is no need to be constantly
picking up any child. If you must, you can sit nearby and read, or do your
housework. I know whereof I speak as I had 4 children, who all turned out
    extremely well!

Heh. It's not usually as bad as I painted it. It's just that recently
she's been having the most awful separation anxiety and seems to want to
be glued to me most of the time - except when all of a sudden she turns
back into her normal independent self and pushes me away.

I decided early on that I wouldn't make her suffer if she had separation
anxiety, I would run with it and let her be with me if she needed to.
It makes no sense to me to force a child who is already fearful to go
without the one person she needs. And in truth I don't find it too
hard; at least I'm getting lots of cuddles at the moment. She's usually
    a very independent little miss.

I'd love to sit nearby and read, but she snatches the book away from me.
Yes, I do do housework around her; I have to. There's no other way to
manage. But there's always plenty that needs doing come evening.

i think it's kind of a bad idea to tell people how to raise their kids.
