  1. At the beginning of this month, I made some enormous financial errors which
resulted in having first our electricity and then our gas turned off.

I had to give all my perishables to my daughter. I know she doesn't have
space for all that I gave her, but I like to imagine that she at least
found good homes for some of it. She has a diabetic friend who lives with
her, and I'm hoping that she received some benefit from my loss.

In the meantime, I was so far overdrawn that we couldn't buy food. Wound
up going to the Salvation Army food pantry. We got about a zillion cans of
baked beans and several cans of kidney beans. Several kinds of crackers,
day-old bread, creamed corn ... you get the general idea.

The only thing I could safely eat was canned chunk chicken. They gave us
frozen meats, but we had to give them to someone else who was there for
food, since we had no way of keeping them fresh.

I've discovered that I have a bad intolerance to either wheat or gluten. I
blow up like a beach ball and look like I could go into labor at any moment
    when I eat wheat.

I received part of my monthly income yesterday, and we bought yogurt,
cream, Hood's Carb Countdown chocolate milk (for hot cocoa), cream cheese,
eggs, sugar-free bacon, and some shredded mozzarella-cheddar cheese.

For the first time in weeks, I had my old faithful yogurt for breakfast
today. Boy, did that feel good. Both emotionally and physically.

I'm not going to weigh myself until I can see visible improvement. Call it
denial if you will, but knowing what's happened to me would likely prove
    emotionally devastating.

I borrowed a couple books from the library about compulsive overeating. I
wound up craving every food mentioned in the book, so they're going back to
the library. I'm hoping that my HMO will approve visits to an eating
disorder specialist, and am writing them a letter later today, formally
requesting that approval. (They never got back to me when I called on the
    phone.)

It's good to be back. I've been miserable, and it's nice to see some
    smiling faces.

Chin up, Carol! Sometimes life kicks you down, but in Finland we have

In Chinese there is another phrase "chi ku" to eat bitterness. The ability
to chi ku speaks of perseverance and endurance. Maybe some Chinese blood as

OT: heck. even though I have quite a lot of friends in P.R.C. and R.O.C.
I did not know about the "chi ku" term - quite funny: when pronounced,
it sounds a bit like "sisu" -too - thanks for this trivia... and Carol
seems to have Danish-Finnish-Chinese ancestors, Quod Erat Demonstrandum 😄

I have a friend who's Chinese. Does that count? ;-)

Starting over from scratch is proving to be pretty difficult. Right now,
my body is expecting more volume that what it really needs, so I'm eating
low-carb foods in greater quantities than I will be in the future.

I've been finding myself wandering through the kitchen, looking into all
the cabinets, searching for something to eat in order to reduce the stress
    of eating less. <G>

I just have to get through today. Then I'll worry about tomorrow. Then
    the next day.

My income is too high to qualify. When I have a manic attack, one of the
things I do is spend money without keeping track of how much I'm spending.
This time was a doozy. Thankfully, I remembered about my Deferred
Compensation account and a small life insurance policy, so we should be
able to catch up on our bills this month.

Carol, you're back on track with the food, you have your lights and such
back-those are the important things! I've been in a similar boat, although
not as dire, and have been trying to just keep total calories low since I

When you write a check or withdraw money, subtract that amount from what you

Yes, it really is that easy. Even the mildly retarded can do it. Please

Yes, it is that easy. It is also easy to lose weight, keep a house clean,
never be late, floss after every meal, feed the cat on time, and not put

Thanks for understanding, Michelle. I seem to have more of my brainpower

Yes, it is that easy. It is also easy to lose weight, keep a house clean,
never be late, floss after every meal, feed the cat on time, and not put
compact discs back in the wrong boxes. No one is perfect and people [censored]

memory, concentration, and perception, you might [censored] up more than the
    average person.

Back in your hole fatty. Nobody pulled your chain.

*sigh* Ok, if you're trying to be JC, you've got the nastiness down, but
you need to get a _lot_ more clever. Oh, as of this morning I'm within 4
pounds of a normal BMI. How is _your_ weight loss going? Hmm?
