Winter riding

That's not winter riding, that's -indoor- riding! 😉

Granted there's hardly ever any snow here, I'm planning to ride all
winter. I went for my second ride in the rain last night.

That sounds like a good idea.

For em though, I still do trials, street, and muni during the winter,
or just go on small rides with the KH for fun.

I also do a lot of coker rides during the winter than any other time.

Here in Israel there is not that much snow. Winter is our rainy season
and boy is the mud fun! Not that snow would stop me. It would probably
act as a cusion to falls!

Northern VA hasn't had that much snow in recent years, so I haven't been
able to mess around on my uni in the snow. I will probably bust out my
Yuni 29er if snow hits us this year.

Why does winter signify the end of the season? It's just colder - wear
a coat. If its hailing/crazy icy out, thats one thing, but just because
its cold that's not reason to not ride! Even a little snow won't hurt,

I suppose you're right, but last winter in the aftermath of the ice
storm in Winchester, I saw a guy take spill off a bicycle into a brick
wall, and cars sliding all over the place. The lack of snow/ice is
wreaking havoc on people's skill to drive/ride in it, they don't get
any practice. Not to mention, snow removal services are pretty poor. My
campus was covered in a 2-4 inch layer of ice for 4 days, and we still
had classes.

I'll be going home to Pennsylvania over the winter break, and I'm going
to mail my uni to myself so I can ride, and it's sure going to be
pretty cold in PA.

I practice Freestyleindoors in the Winter mostly. But my trials tire is
usually all cracked by the end of the winter cause of riding it over
salt and stuff.

Yup, the key is to mount into a couple of hops. Then gradually gain
forward momentum by hoping forward, then roll.

Snow riding with unicycle its realy owsome. Last year we all have 170mm
cranks and ware beginners, this year have 145/150mm cranks,brake and
ride much better 🙂

So this year will be realy crazy :p

Ironically I learnt to ride two winters ago and really got into it last
winter. I probably do more riding when there is snow on the ground than
when there isn't.

Winter opens up a lot of places to ride, the swampy skidoo trials are
suddenly solid and rideable and ski-hills open up so you can get that
downhill thrill with less chance of severe injury.

I am also usually a lot busier during the summer than I am during the
rest of the year.

The only thing I don’t really like about winter is having half a dozen
hours of light a day.

Winter is as great as you make it.

For those of you who have munied at ski slopes, how did you talk them
into letting you ride the trails? Did you buy a pass and just go for it
or did you have to first speak to someone in charge?
