him and simoni had a beer and decided it would be best for
him to try the tour in France out since he is better on
flat stages.

this is what Gilbert told me anyway.

Seems odder you asked a question where the answer is common
knowledge. Lance is a one race rider. TIOOYK.

And that's why I still put Indurain above Armstrong: he
managed to win two doubles.

At this point I tend to agree with you about Indurain. But
if Lance wins a 6th tdf one would have to re-examine issue.
Personally I don't see why Lance could enter the Giro
slightly off form and race into shape.

Sorry, if you get the tape of the 90 Tour de France and
watch Indurain you'll see that he didn't have it in him to
beat LeMond that year. He wasn't TT'ing well and Greg could
have ridden with him on the climbs.

The Exraterrestrial didn't show up until the following year.

Strange that you didn't say, "Indurain would have won 6
straight except for Riis" since it makes as much sense.

Now you should add that Lemond would have one five straight
in not for getting shot and having his appendix out. Add
that to his other wins as mentioned.

If they didn't win then they didn't win. Add nothing in
that case.

No one wouldn't. Even if Lance wins a 6th he still hasn't
won two doubles.

And no one else has won six, including Merckx. So?

That's fine for the record books but it means little in
terms of relative athletic prowess. By virtue of his
two doubles, Indurain would still have won one more GT
than LANCE.

Your right, because winning the double twice makes Indurain
a more complete Champion. I think it's a shame that Lance
has not tried to win the Giro or the Vuelta.

Is it a shame that Jan hasn't (doubled) either? Why race
the Giro and risk losing the Tour? Indurain is still best
known for his TdF wins. Lance will always be known for
beating cancer, and winning the TdF. I'm surprised more
riders don't attempt the Giro/Vuelta double. It would seem
to be a lot easier.
