Well spotted, however, the chap that got the Michies experienced 3 flats yesterday, so 3 Conti tubes, ouch$$. We went into Runners World in the afternon and he bought their last 2 Conti Ultra Gator Skins with Kevlar, more tubes and retaped his rims. See how he goes on todays ride. 🙄

I only carry one spare, so patches would of been in order. Had he not cleared the glass first? Did he pinch the tube? His he using Pro Race 1 or 2 ?

The 3 in 24 hrs: one late Friday near his home, one at the Cafe, one at the end of the ride, almost home, he only had to do one field change. All the glass was removed each time, two front, one rear. I don't have the tyres here to check if Pro Race 1 or 2, but they would be a year or two old.
Training: rubino pro front/ michy axial sport rear...very slow combo when equipped with heavy tubes. I prefer a slow tyre for training an they are very puncture proof. Have only had one flat on the rubino's after a combined 12000km's on three tyres, the only reason I had that puncture was a pothole on low pressure definitely my bad. With those three rubino's I still have quite a lot of tread left so i dare say i could get a minimum 8000km's out of each of them.
The speediums (axial sport) are a new addition to the bike and haven't had a problem after 2000km's. The tread is still just as thick as it was new, I dare say I could get 12000km's out of them atleast. BTW I am a lot lighter than most so I don't wear out tyres that quickly.
Racing: veloflex pave's, $40 each on PBK. One word for these racing tyres...PERFECT!!! and yes the three exclamation marks was a tad harsh, it deserved at least ten but im too lazy :p . Definitely NOT for training I definitely need some race wheels so I dont have to keep swapping tyres before and after race's. These tyres seem to be glued to the ground on corners 😉 and rolling resistance is non existant when you want speed.
I've noticed very few, if any of you post that you use Hutchinsons. Anyone have any particular qualm with them? I got a Hutch Reflex on the rear recently and am pretty impressed with being puncture resistant and riding well. Previously I had F/R Hutch Excels and those were horrible as far as slicing, cutting and puncturing. I originally got them 'cause they're french and I figured my Peugeot would be happier with them. Oh [censored], now I'm dating my equipment. OK, out with it... 1983 peugeot PH-11 with helicomatic freewheel system, and 6 speed cluster, and I am pretty happy with it.
I tried some Hutchinson Carbon Comps for a change last year and had pretty bad luck with puncture and slicing as well. I also noticed that on both tires the edges of the tread area started to seperate from the sidewall area of the casing after a fairly short period of time. Sort of got the appearance that someone had glued a flat strip of rubber around the circumference of the tire.
Bontrager Race X Lite Kevlar, 700x23. They came with my OCLV and wear good, roll fast really stay glued to the corners. Wonder if there is a site online I could get them from.

Flats are a bit of a random event. 2003 5 flats, 2004 5 flats. 2005 5 flats, 2006 (so far) zero flats. I have used the same make/model of tyre for this period. 2003 would of been 3 flats if I hadn't ridden to work on the 31st December, I got a flat rear on the way to work and a flat front on the way home with no spare, had to patch the tyre at the side of the road.
I've been using Michelan pro race 2 for about 6 months now. I've averaged 1 puncture a month. I do about 50 km/day about 3 days a week. I pump them up to about 115 psi (roughly).
I've just ordered some Continental GP 4 Season (Duraskin) from probikekit.com. I don't know what they are going to be like though. I based my decision on the amount of puncture proof blurb in the literature. Unfortunately I didn't know about this site when I ordered them.
My friend has been riding continentals Attack Force for the same period without a puncture on the same route.

I've had loads of Hutchinson tyres over the past few years (living in France they're pretty common). And they've all, without exception, perished and started falling apart long, long before they were worn out. I won't be buying any more of them. Now use Mich speediums for training on one bike (last for ages, ride pretty well). Was using Mich Axial Sports but front one got killed by a large sharp stone which ripped ut the sidewall, andthe other's been demoted to turbo trainer duty. Have just bought a pair of Michelin Krylions to try on the race bike (22 euros apiece from the LBS). Anyone got any opinions on these?

I just replaced my Conti Supersport Ultras after something like 10k miles of riding on those same tires. I never had a flat on them, for any reason. The rear tire started to wear a bit thin, and it did have one little cut in the rubber, so I thought it would be a good idea to get new tires. It's a real shame they don't make those anymore; I loved those tires (had an 18mm tire in front, too...). I just hope your experiences are not indicative for what's waiting for me with my new Michelins (Pro2 Race)...
Still no flats this year [touch wood]. I have been riding on cleaner surfaces this year, busier roads where the cars sweep the surface clean and they are now running street sweepers down some of the bike paths. Still recon there's a lot of luck involved.
I thought I was really clever getting 2 Specialized Mondo S-Works for 50 bucks the other day, then John Kennedy tells me Specialized are the worst tyres on the market :p
Specialized Mondo S-Works are made my Hutchinson, so they are pretty good tires.
Everyday: Michelin Axxial's, had them two years, probably 8k miles, no punctures. A bit heavy, but they have lasted.
Hauling ass: Andre Dugast silk tubies. Pure extravagance, expensive as sin, but when I was in college and counting pennies to keep a decent set of cotton Clements on my old Falcon, I promised myself that one day I'd buy a set of silk tires. So what if it took 20 years to fulfill that request, and I had to really hunt to find silk tubies, and they're probably an outdated concept by now... I did keep that promise.
AND......I am happy a non-American started this thread so the word was spelt correctly. Sick of seeing the word "Tires"..this is rubbish.
FYI
I am from canada, a non-American. We spell Tire. It comes from Middle English, (iron rim of a wheel), probably from tir, attire, short for atire, from attiren, to attire; maybe also old french. The word Tyre is mostly a british spelling when the two variations of the languages were being developed.
