I have a client who is aiming to peak for the SA chamos RR and is unsure whether to do the SA Champs TT as well. It is normally 2 days pre the RR. He dis get a Silver last year at the TT but felt it affected his RR. RR is his main focus. My thinking is that the TT is just another distraction and may interupt his taper. Any thoughts appreciated.

It sounds like someone certainly *could* do both, but if he's not that interested in the TT and felt that it affected his higher priority race last year, then it doesn't sound like he should.
Substitute a shorter, taper-supporting workout instead and see if he feels better in the RR this year.

How long is that TT ?
How old is the client ?
And finally, how long is the taper ?

My gut is telling me that with the right taper, he should be able to excel at both. But, the answer to questions one and three are really important to do this determination.

Thanks guys;
1. TT is 30km
2. I was planning a 7-10 day taper into an event this important for him (but will take any advice)
He is currently in his race season and beginning to go well. Currently 2 L4 sessions, 1 L5 and 1 L6 per week plus race one or both days at weekend.
Races are 1st to 4th June.

I got a bit insulted to see my question about the age, being put aside, but hey. I can get over it, since I think that this interesting thread may be agonizing a bit prematurely.
A little language barrier prevent me from understanding what 2 days pre-RR means. I assume that there is between 48 and 72 hrs hr of recovery between the two events.
Age affects rate of recovery (Dragan and Stanescu, 1971). A younger athlete (18-22 years old) will need less time to recuparate, since he/she has more biological reserves. Plus, these younguns can easily align 9 or 10 hours of sleep in a row, night after night. That helps of course.
Now, there are other factors that contribute to facilitate recovery.
30k, on an ez course profile, is not that much of a big deal, especially if it's done with the upcomming RR in mind.
I don't know about the overall training program of this client, but a 7day only taper might be a bit short, especially if it's the only taper of the season (which I doubt given that the race happens early June). If a second peak is required later in the season, then I'd understand a bit more.
As for the other factors, psychological stress, ability to sleep well the days prior the event(s), ability to eat well, and of course, past experience.
If I take myself as an example, I tend to easily suffer from stress induced insomnia. So for me, that 30k TT would be a bad idea, as the stress would probably impair recovery.
But if your client is young, sleeps well, eat well, taper properly, and has already succeded in the past with this kind of race combinaison, then he should participate in this TT.
** edit **
I almost forgot. If this TT is really not important for the client, then potential for injuries has its weight in the decision taking. If conditions are bad, your rider should not hesitate to cancel his participation to the even, of course. -

Solar, Je suis tres desolee. I guess I replied to Beerco's post and missed a question of yours (late)
He is 32 - and is likely to worry about things etc.
I guess my thinking is - why do this if it is not that important and will be a distraction both mentally and physically ?
Ultimately he will always be worried when things het hard in the RR that he has cooked himself in the TT.
Thanks for the help.

Pas de probleme Peter.
I agree with your conclusion.

I had a nice reply typed in but the server killed it.
I think that 7-10 day taper is too short if this is truly that big a deal for him.
check out this chart: http://fascatcoaching.com/TSTWKT.htm
In Frank's season, the first drop in TSS/day is about 60 days out from the big event(s). I'm sure that the intensity went up though. It also looks that the peak fitness was preceded by a 14 to 28 day taper.
I wouldn't do such a taper for myself, but I only race in the 3s. If this is really that big a deal, a much bigger taper will be required.
The key is to have a hgh enough CTL and enough TSB in the bank such that both chronic fitness is high and freshness is still positive even after the TT (easy right :o ).

Whenever I'm fortunate enough to think about it, I copy the content of the message in the clipboard prior to try a submit.

Its possible to have the message copied to your clipboard before its sent to the server using javascript. There are two problems with it tho:1) It only works with IE
2) Not everyone would want us to update their clipboard automaticallyIn the meantime, I've turned off no-cache headers being sent, so your back button might work if it happens again. Test and let me know 🙂

Thanks, that happens when the server load gets above 12. I've been seeing it alot less since we completed software and hardware upgrades a few weeks ago.I'll have a think about a few different fixes and hopefully we can work it out.
