Hold on a sec..... It is a pot luck and you are expected to prepare enough for 30????? I thought the idea of pot luck was that everyone tool enough to feed themselves and pooled the efforts. If 30 people each took enough for 30 there would be enough food for 900. That is a lot of leftovers, or is it one of those deals where a small core of people work their asses off and most of the rest get a freebie.
Pretty much. The wives of the few that are married get stuck. Such is life.
That sucks. Please tell me that you will take a pass on the next "pot luck" or at least explain the meaning of the term to people.
I am reminded of brunch parties we used to have. Each couple would bring a contribution to the meal and a single friend brought guests.
Yeah..I skip out every now and then...due to illness or whatever..it evens out.
Besides, i feel sort of "motherly" to some of the younguns...(at the ripe old age of 31.)

I don't think 30 people bringing food for 30 is enough food for 900 people, Dave. I think it's a lot more likely that each of the 30 people (assuming that's how many are eating) are likely to take one serving (more if it's tasty) of maybe 5-7 of the offerings.
When we had potlucks at church, we'd prepare a dish for maybe 8-12 people. One didn't necessarily sample each of the dishes. As it turns out according to the OP's response, it was the latter, more of a semi pot luck where a small core bring the food and the majority bring an appetite.
