I made a large strawberry and amaretto trifle to feed a LOT of people for a potluck. (It will feed like 30 people, it was to be a 100 person deal) DH just called and it's cancelled.
We're going to be eating trifle for days now.

I bet if you sent it into work with the hubster, it would be taken care of by the end of the day. Send in paper plates and forks too.

I thought about that. But he's off work until Wednsday. I don't think it'll keep that long.

Got any friends, relatives or neighbours to invite around for an impromptu trife-centered gettogether? Trifle is delicious but there are limits to how much one person can eat :P

Well, PHOOEY! Have you ever used cointreau or grand marnier instead of amaretto with the strawberries? That'd be good.
I'm sure they would. However, my son shredded my alcohol ration card so I am limited to buying things that are 33% alcohol or less. And what's wrong with Amaretto?

Hold on a sec..... It is a pot luck and you are expected to prepare enough for 30????? I thought the idea of pot luck was that everyone tool enough to feed themselves and pooled the efforts. If 30 people each took enough for 30 there would be enough food for 900. That is a lot of leftovers, or is it one of those deals where a small core of people work their asses off and most of the rest get a freebie.

Pretty much. The wives of the few that are married get stuck. Such is life.

Why does this remind me of an episode of the sitcom 'Friends'? Jennifer Anniston was making Trifle from a magazine and the pages got stuck together and she mixed up two recipes. Ground beef in fruit trifle? And everyone was pretending it was so good (and normal). LOL
Sorry about your cancelled pot luck thing. At least you didn't add ground beef!

Amaretto is my favorite liqueur; there is nothing wrong with it. Orange is also a nice complement to strawberries.

That sucks. Please tell me that you will take a pass on the next "pot luck" or at least explain the meaning of the term to people.
I am reminded of brunch parties we used to have. Each couple would bring a contribution to the meal and a single friend brought guests.

Not really apropos to the info from the poster but it seems worthwhile mentioning that the traditional British liquor in trifles is a medium sweet sherry. Bristol Cream should work well.

Add to that the fact that today is my son's 2nd birthday. So there's cake also.
Not that I want to eat anything...I just got home from touring part of Pompeii and I'm wiped out.

That's good info to know..I had wondered. I was wandering about the liquor section..would have used blackberry brandy or regular brandy but I can only purchase up to liquor with up to 33% volume without a ration card..and ours is shredded.

(And, lest you misunderstood, the phooey was for the cancellation of the event, nothing more.)
I knew what you meant :-)
