  1. It is on at 9:00p.m.e.s.t., but I forget which network, but is either
    ABC, CBS, or NBC.

Maybe we can learn a thing or two, but judging by this chef, he's a
    screaming maniac.

I will be interested in your thoughts after having watched this debut.

    It's ABC/Fox.

It's yet another "reality" TV show... definitely not for educational
purposes. If a boss screamed at me in the manner depicted in the previews
I'd be looking for a nice long utensil to shove up his [censored]. <G>

It is on Fox and is replacing the edge-of-your-seat season of 24. I'm too
busy cogitating on what Jack Bauer is doing as he wanders the streets with
no identity to watch this guy. Emeril has a much more pleasant disposition
(and, having dined at his home base establishment, I know first hand).

He is renowned for treating even his customers with extravagant rudeness as
well. I was lucky to not have first hand experience. I have eaten at two of
his restaurants, Gordon Ramsay and another the name of which I cannot recall
at the moment. The food was outstanding at both establishments. Just don't
ask for salt, pepper, brown sauce, or some other outrage! Still, the food
and service was not as good as John Dawning's in Santa Barbara, CA.

I found it interesting that the one "signature dish" he didn't go completely
ballistic over was made by someone who has never worked in a restaurant in
her life. Chicken Parmesan. He commented the chicken was nice and juicy
and said something similar to "she knows how to make chicken and she isn't a
chef"; he commented the presentation was nice and simple. (So many people
try the overkill thing on presentation.)

I thought it was funny as hell when he made the guy who used carrots tops as
a garnish on the plate come over and eat them. "How does that taste?" "Uh,
bitter." "Right. Step BACK!" LOL I was so focused on the carrot tops I
have no idea what he cooked (nor do I care).

Of course the entire thing took on an unrealistic quality when the
restaurant guests were kept waiting 2 hours for their food and people
started walking out. Not to mention customers going to the line in the
kitchen to complain to the chef. No way did these people *not* know they
were in an experimental restaurant for a television show. And no way would
they have been able to get back to the kitchen in a real-life scenario. Oh
well, that's "reality TV" for ya 🙂

I rate it 1 thumb up for something to watch on an otherwise boring Monday
    night.

Isn't the woman who made the chicken parmesan the one he threw out at the
    end of the show?

Gordon Ramsay is good at dishing out abuse. I'd like to see him
compete on Iron Chef or Iron Chef America and see what he really can
    do.

Yes, the only participant he had any real praise for -- twice, she made the
dessert the customers liked, remember? -- he tossed off the show.

He accused her of "turning her back on the team"... as the red team
struggled to get an entree out of the kitchen, she stood back in the dessert
station waiting to do her thing. I don't know if I should criticize her for
that or not. I'm sure that at some point in the show the contestants were
howled at to get to their own stations and stay there or some such warning,
as she seemed to feel she should be back there. Thus she didn't wade out
into the entree fray, and thus she was accused of not being a team player.
IMO, Ramsay was an [censored] to get rid of a contestant who could COOK,
favoring two attitudinous Pilsbury doughboys who turned out undercooked
distasteful fare and a mother of six whose risotto glued itself to the plate
(one of the heftyboys was named Dewberry, for Christ's sake, and Ramsey said
he looked like an overgrown muffin too fat to move around the kitchen!) --
yep, that must be what good management is these days.

The faux-drama of the hour started out as just predictable and tedious, then
progressed to predictable and aggravating. Every camera quick cut and angle,
every shot meant to suggest the capture of candid emotional reactions and
behind the scenes intrigues were transparent schtick. Worse, to make any of
it credible, I would have to be convinced that the "customers" of this
"restaurant" who were evidently so shocked and stunned by the perfomances of
the amateur chefs and Ramsey himself had NO IDEA of the situation they were
really in. Of course they knew! I'm pretty good at the willing suspension of
disbelief, but this was beyond my best effort.

When it was time to announce the losing team, Ramsey reviewed the
performance of each and enumerated the screw ups each one had produced and
expounded about how heinous each misstep had been and what it meant for the
team. Then as he pronounced "The losing team is..." we went to commercial.
How moronic! A cliffhanger? Who are they kidding?! I imagine that everyone
watching Fox at that moment lept up in unison and shouted "The Red Team, you
    [censored]!"

I will have to be very bored and have absolutely nothing else to do before I
    will watch the show again.

A severe beating wouldn't be a bad thing to administer to him. Just as a
small educational exercise. And then keep doing it until he begins to
realize that life is too short to put up with his pain-inflicting
antics. I'm afraid I'd have to plant a skillet in his ear if he spoke to
me as he does to the others in the kitchen. They're there to sell food,
not their self-respect. (Just noticed. All three "there-sounding" words
    in one sentence. Hmmph.)

Truth!I mean, being arsey on occasion, when in the thick of the [censored] that

I thought it was way out there in fantasy land, but it's TV, it's
drama, I guess that's the idea! I moonlight in a kitchen, and we
don't throw meals (plate and all) in the trash or smear them on a
fellow cook's chest. Oh well, I'll give it a 2nd week to see if
    they can even approach reality.

    Here's the thread you're looking for. 🙂
