Isn't the woman who made the chicken parmesan the one he threw out at the
end of the show?
Yes, the only participant he had any real praise for -- twice, she made the
dessert the customers liked, remember? -- he tossed off the show.
He accused her of "turning her back on the team"... as the red team
struggled to get an entree out of the kitchen, she stood back in the dessert
station waiting to do her thing. I don't know if I should criticize her for
that or not. I'm sure that at some point in the show the contestants were
howled at to get to their own stations and stay there or some such warning,
as she seemed to feel she should be back there. Thus she didn't wade out
into the entree fray, and thus she was accused of not being a team player.
IMO, Ramsay was an [censored] to get rid of a contestant who could COOK,
favoring two attitudinous Pilsbury doughboys who turned out undercooked
distasteful fare and a mother of six whose risotto glued itself to the plate
(one of the heftyboys was named Dewberry, for Christ's sake, and Ramsey said
he looked like an overgrown muffin too fat to move around the kitchen!) --
yep, that must be what good management is these days.
The faux-drama of the hour started out as just predictable and tedious, then
progressed to predictable and aggravating. Every camera quick cut and angle,
every shot meant to suggest the capture of candid emotional reactions and
behind the scenes intrigues were transparent schtick. Worse, to make any of
it credible, I would have to be convinced that the "customers" of this
"restaurant" who were evidently so shocked and stunned by the perfomances of
the amateur chefs and Ramsey himself had NO IDEA of the situation they were
really in. Of course they knew! I'm pretty good at the willing suspension of
disbelief, but this was beyond my best effort.
When it was time to announce the losing team, Ramsey reviewed the
performance of each and enumerated the screw ups each one had produced and
expounded about how heinous each misstep had been and what it meant for the
team. Then as he pronounced "The losing team is..." we went to commercial.
How moronic! A cliffhanger? Who are they kidding?! I imagine that everyone
watching Fox at that moment lept up in unison and shouted "The Red Team, you
[censored]!"
I will have to be very bored and have absolutely nothing else to do before I
will watch the show again.
