Ditto. Haven't found a serious weakness in them in over 2 years of running them? They are not the greatest design if you have to add in a lot of pavement, but if you only put in a couple miles paved with mainly trail, they do fine, IMO. I prefer 2.1 width, mainly because of previous lessons with narrower tires of other types. -- Off to ride the mountains, D H Reply to newsgroup. Spam is out of control.
I'll second that. I went to Fire XC's earlier this year and it made a noticeable improvement in my riding. Especially the handling. My trail conditions are similar to yours.
Also, they seem to be wearing reasonably, even though I do my fair share of street riding.
I used the fire xc's for a season and I'm still not sure if I liked them or not... I put my thoughts down on them here:

I've been gravitating towards XC type sticky tires. First the Maxxis and now the Kendas. Sticky tires are the way to go especially under damp slick conditions. The bad side is that they wear faster.
