For one thing they didn't let him go -- they gave him an offer he didn't want to accept. The very reason Kloeden would get a half-assed offer and Kessler and Wesemann none is because when the line was drawn in the sand these three supported their friend Jan (Kloeden and Kessler verbally at the Tour de France and Wesemann by training with him and in the German press) and not T-Mobile management. There haven't even been rumours about these three and drugs which can at least partially explain Honchar and Mazzoleni. It appears to have really become an us / them thing at T-Mobile. If not for Kloeden's performance at the Tour de France and overall he wouldn't have gotten an offer at all. They knew that they didn't make an acceptable offer -- that is the reason for harsh comments from Aldag and Stapleton immediately afterward. It was Kloeden's fault he didn't accept -- not ours for an unacceptable offer -- he doesn't have what it takes to be a leader -- blah blah blah.

It is possible T-Mobile had suspicions, but still only speculation. My sources tell me that there are bad feeling because of Jan and his situation.
Kessler and especially Kloden had conflicts with team management because of Jan's exclusion from the tour.
However, I won't try and convince you, but if I get some good info I will post it and you can take it as you wish.

Husk, was it that he didn't get along with the team, or he just didn't agree with the team philosphies? I haven't heard anyone say anything Zabel himself, just that they were building a team around Jan, and they didn't need what Zabel offered in terms of hte type of rider he is?

He didn't get along with Jan and some others because of the team being built around Jan.
In a pissing contest someone will lose.
When the team traveled somewhere to train, Zabel would stay in different accomodations from most of the team.
I was told this before Zabel was replaced. I don't like to post this kind of information, but it doesn't really matter now.
Zabel has moved on and T-Mobile is not the same team that it was and Jan is up in the air waiting.
I had a PM discussion with Lim about this ....a year ,maybe two years ago.

One day someone will write a book about the behind the scenes soap opera of pro cycling. Doping, personality clashes,love affairs etc.
Maybe CH will do it. I can read in my rocking chair or maybe my nurse will read it to me.

If i would find time to do it i would... and who knows maybe i will....
But right now i am working on another project, a book about juniors and U23... As i don't have a lot of time to work on it, it will probebly take 2 years...

That's OK since I am too busy to read much now and I hope I have a couple of years before the rocking chair is my highlight of the day.

Patrick Sinkewitz (like Kessler & Klöden also managed by Tony Rominger) will stay at T-Mobile. The contract he has with the Ludwig GmbH will be terminated and he will get exactly the same contract with the new T-Mobile team. Marcus Burghardt will have to leave TM:

Giving a rider an offer you know he wont accept is a way to get rid of him.

There were no rumors about Jan either until O.P.

Kloden I repeat, would podium the TdF one year, then not win anything the next year at all. The kind of up and down performances that raise questions.

Klöden just had bad luck, a lot of injuries.

According to sport1.at Georg Totschnig will join TM next year.

And Jan has not been charged with doping and probably won't be. Unless of coruse you hate him and in that case he is the doper from hell.

I really rate Marcus Burghardt - I hope he finds a team that will look after him and surprised TMO dont wont to keep him as he is German. He had a great end and start of the season (currently recovering from a knee injury) and will make a great Classic rider and may be even a tour but may be just a bit big?

I know TMO do have a pro licence - did they buy out Ludwig's and Unibet took Phonaks?

He gave all for Klöden at l'Alpe d'Huez, I made the picture below. About 50 meters after the picture was taken he almost ride in the crowd, he was empty, completly empty. No wonder Klöden wants to stay with Kessler...
