I just finished putting togeter a bike. I built the rear wheel with a
Shimano FH-7700. I put the first 30 miles on the bike this morning
then gave it a quick going over. I noticed the rear wheel bearings
were loose, They were properly adjusted before the ride. I took the
wheel out of the bike and adjusted the bearings. When I put the wheel
back in the bike it had a wobble to it. It appears that the left side
cup is no longer concentric with the hub. I can not imagine what
happend. Has anyone ever seen this sort of thing?

that attaches the freehub to hub). I have bent axles and broken fixing
bolts. -

in the hub. Per Sheldon, "Most rear hubs use 9 1/4" balls on each
side".You may have one too many or one too few balls on the left side.

Thanks, I think that was it. I bought the hub on ebay a few months
ago. It have never been laced and I assumed it was new. When I took
the axle out earlier this afternoon to check for a bend I noticed that
the hub was packed full of what looked like Phil green grease.
Unfortunately I didn't count how many balls came out of each side,
only that there were 18 total. I just put it back together now, and
it seems good. I am thinking that the previous owner took the hub
apart to fill it with Phil grease then put it back together with 11
balls on one side and 9 on the other. If I wasn't so lazy, I would
take it back apart to see if it is possible to do that. -

hub to lube it before putting it in service, the balls
tumbled to one side.--

just shifted, as A. Muzi suggests. I am still sort of surprised how
the hub went from seemingly normal while building the wheel, to all
crooked and wobbly, without taking it apart. I had assumed that an
incorrectly assembled hub would be immediately apparant. I definately
learned something.
