  1. Are these OK to do in the same workout? Like Squats first, then right
into deadlifts? Or should they be done on different days? I want to
get these in 2x/week. But doing them separately, quads would be hit 4
days/week. Too much? If I alternate Squats, then DLs every 3 or 4
days, that may not be enough. The last time I took off Squats for 7
days, that next session was difficult, lost the feel of the weight.
    My routine:

    Day 1: Squats/DLs
    Day 2: Ch/Sh/Tri
    Day 3: Back/Bi/Abs
    Day 4: Off

You're really from webtv? Wow, talk about flashback.

Anyway, I used to do squats and DLs on the same day. I had a split that
looks kind of like yours (as I recall). I used to alternate which one I did
first. I mean, week 1, squats first and week 2, DLs first. This because
you will not be able to do as much on whichever lift you do second.

I also found this was a really great way to trash my legs (which was not
necessarily a good thing) and I also _always_ had DOMS the next day or two.

On reread I see that you plan to try to do these twice a week and that might
be better for reducing DOMS. How does it work for you to do
chest/shoulders/tris after DLing? My shoulders used to get a pretty good
work out from DLing. Of course, the back gets a good work out, too, so
swapping day 2 & 3 isn't necessarily the answer. I'd say, give it a try and
see how it goes. It's not like you're locked into anything by trying
    something new.

    I do them together in a 3xweek whole-body workout. After the DL's I'm
pretty much trashed--I do MP in theory, but they're a joke. I've been
doing back squats PL style--I'm thinking front squats are probably better
    in combination with the DLs.

I do a three day split. Push, pull and legs. For legs, I do squats, either
straight leg DL or standard, and calf raises. If I'm feeling ambitious,
I'll superset legs with a pull day. If I just do legs, I'll usually do
cardio after on that day. Treadmill or kicking drills.

I'm not saying this is what the OP should do. Just that it's what I do and
I find it works for me.

  5. I did them together yesterday. One good thing, after Squats I was
warmed up, so it was easy to jump right into DLs. It was harder to do
them. I had to take 4 or 5 mins rest in between each DL set..
And I was wasted, the front of my quads felt smaller for a while.

Since I prefer DLs to SLDLs, should I add a few sets of Leg Curls?

    My routine,
-Squats: (1st 3 sets are warmup, not much effort), weight increases
    with most sets.

    1 x 12 to 15 reps
    1 x 12
    1 x 10
    1 x 10
    1 x 8
    1 x 8
    1 x 6
    1 x 3 to 5

-DLs, 5 sets, 1st set warmup.

    1 x 10
    1 x 10
    1 x 8
    1 x 6
    1 x 5 or 6

    - Calves 5 sets.

Should I change anything? Also someone told me to keep DLs and Squats
    separate and alternate. Like this:

    Sun - Sq
    Tues - DLs
    Thurs - Sq
    Sat - DLs

    Is that better?

This is not a bad thing.

"Felt smaller" ? What a bizarre way to measure performance or success in
    lifting.

What's wrong with SLDLs? You mean, for more hamstring work?
If you won't do SLDLs, how about Good Mornings or Reverse Hypers?

    1 x 6
    1 x 3 to 5

That'a a LOT of reps. Have you considered fewer reps, fewer sets, and only
one (heavier) working weight? (keeping the warmups).

Still seems like a lot to me. How long are you spending in the gym?

Wouldn't be for me - I'd be constantly trashed, and not able to give much on
my other days. Are you doing any other heavy lifting, like on your lats or
abs or chest or? When do you squeeze that in? Do you think you'd get
enough rest/recovery on a schedule like this? You'd be DLing one day and
squatting the next on the weekend.

However, it depends ($1 to Lyle). Some people might be able to handle this.
I couldn't. This is not to say it's wrong. I'm a huge advocate of trying
things out and seeing what works for YOUR body. It ain't gonna happen
overnight (though I did once add 25 pounds to my bench in 6 weeks), so you
    have years to experiment.
