I haven't seen these yet, but will look for them. They might be promising
for dishes where presenting a whole lobster or tail isn't important. Lobster
Thermadore comes to mind.

sort of bland fish with crab or lobster flavoring.

Looks like they are a pacific lobster variety.

I haven't tried them, but I live in Maine where lobster is inexpensive
compaired to most other areas. Doesn't look like it's kani/surimi.
FWIW I've never had a problem with the quality of flash frozen lobster
meat.

kind of like prawns (shrimps to you, I think?), but sort of meatier-tasting
(ie sometimes prawns can be a bit wishy-washy) definitely worth a try if you
have them there

What's so tasty about lobster... the claws and legs are sorta somewhat
flavorful on their own, even the shell has flavor, but the tail is like
ribeye, pretty blah but readily takes on whatever seasoning/sauce
accompanies... most usually lobster tail tastes like [duh] butter...
like just have a couple buttered English muffins and save $20. Lobster
(and shrimp) is the tofu of shellfish. Lobster tail (and shrimp) are
popular restaurant fare because they're easy to eat (even a toddler
can), but mostly because they can be made to taste however one
prefers... without the typical strongly flavored spices, herbs, and
sauces they'd taste like nothing.. I mean like no person with a modecum
of good taste (and good sense) would pay $12 for a shrimp cocktail
appetizer; a few measly day old boiled shrimp drowning in horseradish
flavored ketchup unless taste-in-ass is normal for you. And because of
their relatively high price they have great snob appeal.. I mean no one
brags about odering the $8.99 liver smothereed in onions... but folks
love to relate how they ate Lobbbbbbbster.... it's all about how it
rolls off the tongue. Lobster is an oceanic cockroach.

Btw, a lobster has a larger brain than Duh'Wayne. <g>

Moreton Bay Bugs are a Shovel-nosed crayfish, once thrown away when caught
in Queensland Aussie until they became a good cheap eat. No meat you can
use in the body or legs and usually the whole crustacean is about the size
of your hand (they grow to twice that size, but I ain't seen 'em)) and only
the tail eaten, which is about 1/3rd to 1/2 of the body length.

Most say it is sweeter than Crayfish. The taste is fine and usually
doo-dahed up with fancy sauces. 20+ years ago cheaper Buffet restaurants in
Brisbane would have a table with a 2 foot high mound of Bugs boiled whole
and you grabbed a plate and snapped the tails off and picked out the meat.

OK, but if those are crayfish, it looks like the original subject matter
of this thread is something else - when I Googled "squat lobster," I
found several pages describing something that looked like a tail-less
lobster but which is actually more closely related to hermit crabs. So
I'm still wondering - does THAT critter taste more like a lobster, or
a crab? (Or something else entirely?)

This sounds like what I bought several months ago. Described as
"lobster chunks" it was really pressed lumps of ground "something" and
did not resemble lobster in taste at all. The bag in fine print says
"cook when frozen" Tried the first bag..threw it and second bag away.
