A 50cc 2stroke is hardly an environmental disaster. Tell that to those driving Landbruisers and Falcodores (ie. 80% of the population of Australia).

So, go 4stroke, although it gets a bit more expensive, I feel it is worth it.

Too late. Seriously, you should have a ride of one of the Honda 50cc 4stroke scooters. They're puss slow. My commute is 35km. If I had a 4stroke, it'd be quicker to ride my pushy!

Handy for you that Velo Bikes is right next to scootopia. have you seen those big ass 650cc suzuki burgman scooters? They are massive....

Not yet - we don't get it until Sunday. I have given Paul strict instructions that he is not to wheelstand it. He used to do this on his mate's scooter, but he will be castrated if he does this on mine.

We went and had a look... lots of wanky stuff in there. Paul had a drool over some Colnagos but like I always say, "You have to deserve it first!". Same with Dura-ace. Paul's first road bike almost ended up being a full dura-ace spec until I told him that you have to earn that kind of [censored]!

A 50cc 2stroke is an environmental disaster for what it is, you can not compare it to a knacker van. If you do, the knacker will say, Ehhh, I am not bad compared to jumbo jet. See what I mean? It is bad for what it is. You can compare it to a 4stroke and then it is really bad. I agree that a 50cc 4stroke will be slow, but why go 50, get a 125, that will be okish. 🙂 I know, license and cost and all that.

Yeah Lotte I would be inclined to get one of them also 😄. But the scooter should do the job (commute) fine for now.

But Claes...... generally on a work day all a landcrusier is achieveing is transporting 1 person from their home to their place of work. That is alot of fuel and energy to move a human from A to B that could be done by a 50cc scooter in the same time (not including highway travel) for alot less petrol, materials etc. Yeah I know they burn oil as well as petrol but it is very small quantities in comparison to the petrol required.

When I was young,if you rode "out of class" you got a fine. Now it's
"driving without a relevant license" and you lose your car license and
get a big fine. Be careful!

But they don't feel it. I've ridden one a few times and just cruising down
the highway, look down at the speedo and see that I'm doing 140km/h. My
1100cc Guzzi feels a lot faster at that speed.

My licence says MR R. I'm not allowed to drive trucks with more than two
axles. Anything else is OK.

Hey, that's what I've go! Fastest scoot out there (Unless you come up
against a hotted up ItalJet Dragster (same engine)) In RED too, to match my
Wilier. I'll drag off any other scoot. It's doesn't look like a 50cc scoot
thought, it's noticably bigger when they get side by side.
I also motorpace people on it at Hanson Reserve velodrome, if anyone is
interested here in Adelaide.....

Yeah, it is a good point, but unfortunately, I am not sure a 50cc 2stroke without any sort of "catalyst" or such, is cleaner than a 5 liter v8 4stroke with a catalyst.

2strokes are dirty as hell, not the oil in the petrol that is the only problem. Since it does not have valves, it relies on the piston, and the intake and exhaust ports to control intake and exhaust. It does not have an "empty" revolution, like a 4stroke does, it has much less time to achieve that function. Thus it spits out quite a lot of unburnt fuel, IE intake and exhaust are open at the same time. Also, the fumes themselves are worse as well.

On the other hand, if you make that argument, transport from A to B only, then you should buy a 4stroke, since it is cleaner and acchieves the same goal.
