: Last Thursday night, I set out on my normal 7 mile loop around the
    neighborhood.
: The run starts out fairly level then around mile 2 there's about a mile
long downhill section then another mile of flat
: then I turn around and start back. As I started up the hill, I noticed I
wasn't huffing and puffing like I usually do.
: I actually felt like I wasn't pushing hard enough but my watch said I was
well ahead of pace. By the time I hit the top
: of the hill, I could tell my heart was pounding but not in the "near
death" sense that it usually does, but more
: manageable. I slowed slightly to recoup and then started down my street.
It's 9 tenths of a mile long. After turning
: onto my street, I was running in the Twilight Zone.
: It felt like I was a little machine operator sitting up in my head
controlling the running machine. I felt no pain or
: exhaustion like I normally do at that point in the run. I finished in a PR
of 54:26. When I got to my driveway, I didn't
: want it to be over. Normally I pray I'll make it back at all. I had to
convince my self to not turn around and do
: another loop. I've never felt anything quite like it.
: Hoping to repeat the performance, I set out to do a 5 mile run Friday
night. It was not to be. Everything was an effort.
: I couldn't clear my head like the night before.
: Was this a fluke or will I ever achieve inner peace again?

I had a run like that last year at Virginia Tech U. Ran the cross-country
course for 6 or so miles- lots of hills. Initially, I didn't feel like
running and thought about just bagging it all. But after the course, I was
feeling great. So I kept running for another 3 or 4 miles. It was awesome.
Amazing peace, joy, etc. That's the last time I've had a run like that. I
    had only planed 4 miles.

I think you should have attempted another loop. Those nirvanna times are
    few and far between.
