Only one way to safely increase the bike limit. Pay cash. Buy the new bike when there is a hard rubbish collection under way in your area. When introducing the new bike to the house, announce "You wouldn't believe what I just found!! How could someone throw something like this out? Unbelievable. I'm glad I came along in time to pick it up before someone else did."
Steve(3 Bike Limit at The Moment)A
Or pay beer for bikes that were found in the hard rubbish....
I have a different way of introducing new bikes:
Every time I hear "There's too many bikes in this house" I reply with "Sure, lets get rid of the one that does the least mileage".
Luckily, this has so far saved the track bike, training bike, racing bike and the half built beer fixie.
And if she rides more than you, then she's probably got just as many bikes so can't really complain.
You need to start taking every duplicated item of your wife's and throwing it in the bin. "Shampoo AND conditioner? Not in this house missy!" "TWO romantic comedy dvds.. not in here little lady"
DANGER, DANGER....this is the point at which one husband may be considered to be one husband too many 😄
Single so i'm safe from divorce 🙂

So you'd lie to the missus instead of telling her that you're spending YOUR OWN hard-earned cash on a bike? The world is just too messed up..

hippy "I earn it, I burn it!"[/QUOTE] I can tell you're not married as you still subscribe to the 'OWN hard earned cash' line 🙂
The earlier mentioned plan to obtain more bikes is of course tongue-in-cheek. But the next bike really will have to be under $50 or come from the hard rubbish collection.

As for 'how cheap', speak to Shabby when he's finished his 'Beer Fix' 🙂
whats a rear hub cost? 'tis prolly all i need to make a spare 27" mungrel into a fixie 😉 that and a new chain...
You could pay "bugger all" to "fark!" for a proper track hub or you could convert one of the older style screw-on hubs for the cost of a track cog and some locktite.
If it's 27", it's highly likely to use the scew-on type hubs so you could be in luck. I think Geoff's fixie uses this method?
Not any more.
My fixie used to use a screw on road hub for the first couple of years until the bearing cups on the rear hub started getting a bit rough and pitted. October last year saw it get Miche track hubs front and rear. I had to get these in from OS as neither of the two local distributors had stock of the 36 hole version that I required at the time and didn't expect to get any in soon either.
I ordered a DeoreLX groupset today. The GT SS is gonna be gear-a-fied! It's also getting a new/rebuilt front wheel. I'm hoping to have separate brake and shifter pods rather than the combo units. The groupset is going to look WAAAY too good for the bike.. I'll need to coat it with dust and [censored] before I take it OS! 🙂
Get the factory dust finish. Doesn't cost much more 😉
My income stops in 5 days, so to save money, I'm just going to let the baggage handlers "stress" the finish on the groupset. 🙂
hippy - crossing fingers that doesn't actually happen
I can tell you're not married as you still subscribe to the 'OWN hard earned cash' line 🙂
Is it any wonder I don't find marriage an appealing prospect? You married dudes are all skint, too busy minding kids to ride, can't buy bikes because the missus will bust your balls, too tired from changing nappies all night, etc.. :P You're not exactly promoting the situation to the singlies 🙂

but that means finding the funds for twice as much biketech. You might manage to avoid getting twice as much dudtech, so there's some savings to be had.

Forego the dual car like most people seem to view as a 'must have' and another bike or set of bikes seems cheap. Pick a partner who rides the same size bikes as yourself, only buy unisex styled bikes (that means no fugly drop tubes and no baskets! Tassles are fine) and you're set! 🙂 Marry rich. Inherit. Win tatts. So many options 😄

Why? D'ya wanna get married? ([censored]! That's not a legally binding statement in this country is it?! :P)
How tall are you? More accurately, what size road frame do you ride? 😄

Hmm.. 54cm is possible but not optimal. It's nothing to do with your butt.. it's about saving money by sharing bikes. Unless 54cm was the width of your bike! 😄
