Hi Nathalie, from another Nathalie, in Antwerp, Belgium!

Hello! Now delurk, and give us some Belgian recipes! Hey, for
instance, a simple one I never could duplicate: the tomates-crevettes.

    Nathalie in Switzerland

Oooooo yes, that sounds tasty! One of the best meals I had in Europe
last time was in Belgium, in a tiny little restaurant in Brugges. We
got lost :-) and this was obviously a family-not-a-tourist
restaurant. It was wonderful. A couple of women dining near us heard
us wondering aloud how we would ever get back to the hotel, and
offered to take us there. I have very fond memories of Belgium!

Ahh I used to live there🙂)

I lived there for four years and would return to live, in a
    heartbeat🙂)

More then a couple of years though🙂

Thanks for the links; particularly the second one. Malta looks soo
special to me. I have a limey friend (probably in his 70's) whose
father is buried in Malta. I know not of the circumstance; the
personal history was private. I've always imagined Malta more
    intriguing than "Casablanca."
    Thanks,
    Dee Dee

I bought my parents the video of Casablanca... can you believe my (then)
    73
year old mother had never *ever* seen that film?? OMG! One day last year
    I
called her on the phone and she was all like, you're interrupting us,
    we're
watching 'Casablanca'. LOL Oh, pardon me!

In my dreams, plop me down in Ricks. Everyone loves Ricks.

    Jill

There is another movie (1938 black and white) that we watched a couple of
nights ago, (Algiers) which has some of that intrigue of Casablanca which
starred Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr - two beauties of cinema.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029855/
"Beautiful Gaby meets a romantic jewel thief in the mysterious Casbah." and
"User comments: Almost as classic as Casablanca."
    But, I prefer Casablanca.

Thank you for making this lovely map! It's great to see where everybody's
from. And hello to Nathalie! 🙂

Is it me you're waving to or the Belgian one? It's the first time
(after 9 years) that I see another Nathalie on rfc.

Hi Nathalie, from another Nathalie, in Antwerp, Belgium!

And Hi to you both from Don, another mainly lurker in Belgium. I pop in from
time to time when I have something to say. I visited Antwerp with my wife
last Sunday and we were delightfully impressed. We were supposed to be
looking for a visit round a diamond production, but finished up wandering for
hours round the Groenplaats and surrounding streets. It was enchanting. We
live in Duisberg, a Dutch commune SE of Brussel. We have been touring Het
Nederland for the past 3 weeks.

Hello! Now delurk, and give us some Belgian recipes! Hey, for
instance, a simple one I never could duplicate: the tomates-crevettes.

    Nathalie in Switzerland

    Natalie,

This is a recipe for Tomaat met Gryze Gaarnaalkes (Tomates aux Crevettes)
Tomatoes Stuffed with Shrimp appetizer. The author is a Belgian lady, Ruth
Van Waerebeek who now teaches cooking in New York City, but grew up in Ghent.

There isn't a substitute for the delectable North Sea shrimp, which are the
sole stuffing in Belgium, she substitutes a mixture of shrimp, crabmeat and
    lobster. This serves 4.

4 firm, ripe, large beefsteak tomatoes
    Salt to taste
2 cups cooked, shelled and diced shrimp, crabmeat, and/or lobster meat
    ¾ cup mayonnaise, preferably homemade
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
8 to 12 crisp lettuce leaves
    ¼ cup minced, fresh parsley

    1. Cut a thin slice off the top of each tomato and reserve. Carefully scoop
out the seeds and pulp of each tomato with a teaspoon. (Save the pulp for a
tomato sauce). Sprinkle the insides of each hollowed-out tomato with salt and
turn upside down on paper towels to drain.
    2. Mix the shellfish with the mayonnaise and season with salt and pepper.
    3. Arrange 2 or 3 lettuce leaves on each plate. Place a scooped-out tomato in
the centre. Sprinkle the insides of each tomato with the black pepper and
fill each one with the shrimp or seafood mixture. Cover with the reserved
tomato tops and sprinkle each plate with minced parsley.

    Okay folks..

A lot of folks are adding themselves... But I guess I forgot to add
    one important piece of information.

You can zoom down to street level on this map. You have to keep on
zooming in, and moving the map. You move the map so you can zero in,
and then keep on zooming in on your area. You can go down as far as
street level... It won't show street addresses, but it will get you
very close to where you are.

Now try it. Those of you who put yourself in the wrong place, let me
know, and I will delete you so you can add yourself in the right
    place.

Please will you remove both of mine so I can do it properly

I also found out, from another friend, that you can find your exact
    house by the satellite view...

Well, in Switzerland, you can't even see the town. I got to the Lake
    of Geneva level, then nothing.

I guess you're not much of a national threat.

I just realized that I have one of her cookbooks, _Everybody Eats Well
in Belgium_" I've made a number of recipes from it, very good stuff.

  11. Maybe it's just me but does it bother anyone else that nobody's claimed
    South America???
