Recommended 29" Touring Uni?

I'd go for one with an Alex Adevnturer rim and Nanoraptor tire from
U.D.C. I like that combination. The KH 29er is realy nice as well.

I'll second the KH 29er. I ride mine around town and also take it on
some trails. The cranks allow you to put the pedals at either 150 or
125 so it's like having two different unicycles.

I like the KH 29er but if you're on a budget I can't stress enough how
much better off you'll be with a nimbus 29" rather than a Torker AX
29". The nimbus is $4 more than the torker and more than half the
price of the KH. It isn't top end like the KH but it got me through a
few hundred miles over last year including Indiana's Hilly Hundred bike
tour. You can put a nanoraptor tire on it for off road or hybrid or a
big apple on it for road riding. The seat is 100x better than the
torker and its completely interchangeable with most other UDC parts. I
completely rebuilt my 29er with a square top frame, custom handlebars
and a kenda off road tire before I sold it. I used it for off road
after I bought my 36er.

Have you ridden the AX, too, or is your evaluation based just on your
experience with the Nimbus? I believe the AX is significantly lighter
than the Nimbus. Just curious, as a friend is considering the AX.

I have ridden the 29 AX as well. The hub is nto as wide and therefore
the wheel is more prone to tacoing or bending on curbs and bumps.
Also, the spokes seem less sturdy and the horrible torker seat(tm) make
it an unrealistic option for distance riding.

The KH is certainly an excellent unicycle. Nevertheless, the number of
sizes for cranks is somewhat limited (125 and 150?).

If you're going to develop into lots of road-riding, you might be
interested in trying out smaller cranks.

I've got the Nimbus 29er and I absolutely love the uni now that I have
114 mm cranks on it. Hills are no problem, once you get used to it.
I'm considering dropping down to 102 mm in the next couple of weeks.
Can't do this with the KH. Also, replacements for non-splined cranks
are inexpensive. As long as you keep the crank bolts tight, I can't
imagine ordinary road riding (including curb hopping) doing any damage
to the square tapers.

The nice thing about your situation is that you can't make a bad
choice.

I have the UK version of the Nimbus 29er and it rocks. It's been my
most versatile uni purchase, being capable of both distance riding and
offroad. I bought it when I was less knowledgeable about unicycles,
but think I made a good decision.

I stand corrected. I had not seen most of these other crank sizes
available through UDC or through my limited searching on the internet.
It's good to know.

So, if money is not an issue and the 29er is the size you'll stick
with, I'd recommend the KH, then. Then again, like I stated before,
the good thing about being in the midst of this decision is that you
can't really make a bad choice.

I like the Nimbus 29". If you're just riding around the Nimbus with
125mm cranks is a great unicycle.

I didn't mention the yuni 29 based on my experience with the yuni 26.
My girlfriend has the 26" yuni and I wasn't impressed with the seat
used or the stock tire choice. Both of those items look to be better
on the 29er now that I look at it. I still hold by my thoughts of the
$4 more for the nimbus over the torker being very worth it.

Not quite. It's missing 89mm and 65mm cranks, which are quite useful
if you are setting up your 29" as a flat racer. Otherwise I reckon the
Quax cranks look really nice.

If you can afford it get the Kh29 I have one with 150 cranks and its
great for muni XC and on the road I love it because its fast agile
strong enough to take off drops and has long enough cranks to climb
very steep. I couldnt aford the double hole cranks but may buy them in
the future. I bought a magura brake instead which has aloud me to take
it down tracks people on bikes havnt dared to try.

Drill and tap the 125's and you have 100/125mm cranks.

Aside from the horrid seat the AX looks pretty good to me. Probably a
couple of pounds lighter than the KH and Nimbus: 12 lbs vs. 14.19 lbs
vs. ?

IMO, depends. For long smooth road, the Nimbus. For lots of curbs, the
Air. But for distance the KH Fusion Freeride is _much_ more
comfortable than the Nimbus on smooth and moderately better on bumpy.

are going within a hour, do it, and if you can do a trick 50-75% of the
time do it along the way.

I've seen lot's of Japanese riders use 65mm and 89mm cranks. I'm sure
one of the UDC's can order them in from Japan. The 10km at Unicon 12
was won on 65mm cranks on a 28" Unicycle. Avg speed was about 25km/hr.
