I can: because they're overprescribed. Back in 2001 I was prescribed Zyprexa
by a psychiatrist because I couldn't sleep after having worked nights for a
few weeks. Basically, I'd applied for the night shift 'coz you got paid more
& worked only 4 days a week but I just couldn't sleep in the daytime. I had
to go see the company doctor to get transferred back to days, only my body
clock was all screwed up & I couldn't sleep day or night. The doctor
referred me to a psychiatrist who was quick to prescribe Zyprexa & bill the
company obscene amounts for weekly consultations that lasted only 10 mins.

I refused to take the drug after reading about all the side effects online,
next time I went to see the doctor I told him I couldn't believe I'd been
prescribed a drug for schizophrenia when I just had a problem with my body
clock. He replied that he'd prescribed it "because drowsiness is one of its
side effects & it will help you to sleep" and that weight gain was a side
effect but "that's no reason to worry". I'm glad I refused to touch the
stuff, since it's also a very expensive drug & the company didn't cover the
cost of prescription drugs.

I tried to refuse Prednisone back in March of 2000 as I had just had
anti biotic for pneumonia but the doc insisted. My immune sytem crashed
and the result was Celiac Disease, food sensitivity and Multiple
Chemical Sensitivity. It radically changed my life and I have had only
one prescription filled since then, Xanex which I reserve for sleepless
nights. iIve taken about six "half" tablets in six months.

I've been on Prednisone for 5 years.... in fact I would be dead without it
or at least another autoimmune suppressant. Long term use has a host of
possible risks mostly involving premature aging in some fashion or another.
Short term responses vary greatly but are quite reversible once the drug is
stopped. Most Prednisone critics fail to differentiate between short term
and long term side effects.....It is very standard treatment for lung
infections, mostly to temporally throttle back a over responsive immune
system.....Why do you think it had such a non typical effect on you?
Virtually everyone with my rare disorder (Retroperitoneal fibrosis) has used
(many use it intermediately) or uses Prednisone without your result...anyway
just curious....Rod

Eating too much causes massive weight gain, no drug can do that on its own.

Pdnisone and anti biotic administered close together can affect the
immune sytem. prednisone has many known side effects. Many things can
compromise the immune system.

I do not want to accuse you of being ignorant so will just post some of
the side effects of prednisone. Even though it is a life savibg
measure in SOME cases i can have some severe consequences especially
in combination with anti biotic. Your responses to my original post are

Indeed you would and generally high blood sugar problems are from long
term use not from merely a week....there is also huge dosage differences
depending on the condition being treated. Someone like Jerry Lewis with
Pulmonary fibrosis had his life and quality of life significantly extended
by large 100mg or larger doses, he also blew up like a balloon, got the moon
face etc...he also thinks it is much better than dead. Advanced Lupus
cases may use mega doses as with many other serious autoimmune disorders
(there is a amazing number of these) ...... It provides no cure but it does
help mitigate immune system excesses or manage the condition.

For cancer patients it is sometimes used as a appetite stimulant, as one
whom has been on the
medication for 5 years it works<G>. Long term with a steady dose and the
appetite "problem" seems more than manageable however if I change my dose it
jumps back quickly.

While much is still unknown about the drug and its full interaction with the
body what it does is replace or augment a natural hormone(cortisone)
produced by the adrenal gland.....No cortisone and your dead so it plays a
rather important role. Excess cortisone under long term treatment and your
own adrenal gland shuts down, which is why with long term use gradual
stepped down dosages are required......They usually or often even use
stepped down dosages for short term prescriptions, apparently to avoid
"shock" even though the adrenal gland does not particularly go off line that

日午後９時５分ごろ、愛知県知多市つつじが丘、団地の住人とみられる男性から「一家心中した」と１１０番があった。知多署員が現場に駆け付けたところ、男性３人、女性３人の計６人が死亡し、男性１人が負傷しているのを発見した。
　同署は現場の状況などから殺人事件とみて捜査を始めた。

　調べでは、１１０番したのは負傷した男性で、村田幹夫さん（４６）とみられる。死亡した６人について「両親と妻、子供２人と弟だ」と話しており、知多署はこの男性が家族を殺害した疑いがあるとみて確認を急いでる。

　遺体のうち、男女４人は大人で、うち３人は村田さんの父稔さん（７４）、母キヌエさん（７４）、弟の豊晴さん（４４）とみられる。残る男女２人は子供という。

　村田さんとみられる男性は腹部に刺し傷を負い、出血している。県内の病院に搬送され、重傷という。
