After much searching and seeking referrals I think I may have found my new
LBS, So, today I dropped the Van Dessel Buzz bomb frame off at a LBS to have
them press in the King headset and set the lower race on the Marzocchi fork.
so I can start building it up this weekend.
The LBS seems promising, though they didn't carry anything specific to them
such as tube or tires or wide 700c rims, they at least knew what a 29"er
_was_ and recognized the Van Dessel label. They indicated that my Buzz Bomb
was the first 29"er ever in their shop and they seemed genuinely interested
in the frame and plans for it. (At least they recognized me a a genuine
bike-nut, instead of just some Barney off the street ;-)
The Surly New Disc Hubs have been here for over a month..... The Alex TD17
rims are ordered, and a soon as they get here I can measure the actual ERD
and order my spokes.. (The mortgage can wait a week ;-)
Thanks to some generous folks in the NG, massive search and rescue out in
the garage, and some creative horse trading, I have enough to get the
building under way in earnest. I'm still missing some vital parts such as:
tubes, tires, rim strips, cranks, pedals and a chainring but those are minor
details in the grand scheme of things, to be sure.
From my parts bin, donations and trades I have scrounged up:
ContolTech stem
Race Face Low Rise bars
Serfas Dual Density grips (ODI lock-on clones)
Avid SD-2.0l front brake lever (rebuilt w/ bushings from rear)
Avid mechanical front disc brake
Hope DH4 rear brake system (Originally on The Pig... leaking slightly from
the lever plunger)
Syncros seatpost
Titec Ithys Amore saddle
18T Sh!tmano freewheel
square taper bottom bracket (might be a warranty replacement UN-71)
my "spare" PC-48 chain (of course _now_ I'll probably break my chain and
need it.)
Pictures to come soon, I hope.
