When my mom still lived in Memphis (a long time ago!) we went to lunch at this little place in Bartlett. She was absolutely *thrilled* to see they had calves liver and onions on the menu and she ordered it. I don't remember what I ordered, I just know it wasn't liver and onions. I can't describe the taste; it's like biting into chewy iron. She loved it. I wonder if that place is still there? They did have other good food but that was 20 years ago 🙂 They probably aren't still there.

I've had many good meals and a few great ones. But only one euphoric meal. Travelling from Memphis to New Orleans, we stopped at a Holiday Inn in Jackson, Mississippi for lunch where I ordered liver and onions. Each bite was an ascension into sheer heaven. That was thirty years ago and I can't remember ascending since.
Heh, I could always tell when liver was on the menu at work, you could smell that heavy dirty odor from the sidewalk, and I'm talking a big office building. It would waft all the way from the back of the building where the vents were from the cafeteria.
Luckily they always served it with onions, so the onion cooking smell kinda cut the liver smell. A little.

My ex-girlfriend didn't like the texture of onions, but she liked the flavor. So she'd run them through a grinder to get rid of the texture.
Same here. I don't care for the texture of onions (or celery, either, for that matter). But I find they don't bother me if I do a very fine dice rather than a course chop. They also need to be cooked soft.

I get paranoid of celery in tuna or chicken or pasta salads that other people make because I'm always trying to eat around the onions and I don't mind the celery but I hate the onions. Every bite of celery makes me pause waiting for the inevitable onion rudeness.

Ugh, that would be the worst for me. Too small to eat around, too big not notice.
I hate onions.

dude, exactly. If I hae to cook something with onions I leave them in big chunks to pick them out later.
Use Onion Juice (yes, they sell it; look in the seasonings aisle) or onion powder (not onion salt) to get the taste without the chunks to pick out of the food.

Say that AFTER you've tried the magic variety and I'll eat my weight in [censored]!

I gagged the first time. Just KNOWING what they were made it terrible.
<lol> Most people solve that in two ways. Dry them and powder them, then load them into gel caps, or make mushroom tea with a little vodka, filter and toss the solids. ;-)
sigh, I wished I'd known that back then. I've given up a lot of my bad habits over the years...

I don't put onions into cold meat salads, but I do put celery. :-) I cannot stand raw onions. They must be well cooked. I hated them as a kid but have learned to enjoy them to the point of really liking a good french onion soup.
I hate when a perfectly good salad is ruined with the raw onions. It's such a pain to have to inspect every bite before you put it in your mouth. I try, I really do, but I just cannot stand raw onions. I used to hate bell peppers as much but I've mellowed a bit on that and can handle small amounts, so I'm holding out hope that as I age I will learn to tolerate onions better.
