  1. Nicholas Roche writes a column for one of the Irish newspapers while riding the longer stages races.
Discussing his abandonment of the P-N race he says

"This morning, for the first time this week, I put my rain bag into the breakaway car. If it started raining, I wanted easy access to my gloves, cape and other paraphernalia if things went according to plan and I got into the day's main move.
The stage started really fast and immediately I was jumping across to attacks and trying to get into the right move. I got up the road a few times, but we were brought back almost immediately each time. After a while, I started to struggle and drifted down the back of the bunch. Soon I was last wheel and felt like I had ridden 300km, instead of just 60km.
I was feeling terrible. My legs were empty, my head was light and even my arms were weak. Eventually, I just let the wheel in front of me go and had to chase for a bit. There was a group of eight or 10 riders behind me and I was with them for a while, but even then I was suffering.
I was dropped by the stragglers after about 80km. My manager, Julien Jurdie, stayed with me in the team car for a while. He was hoping that the group in front of me would slow down and eventually I'd get back on and I'd recover and be able to survive to the finish. But I couldn't see myself going another minute on the bike.
When he realised how bad I was, Julien stopped the car and I abandoned. There was no big scene. No commissaire stripping me of my race numbers, no TV crews in my face. I climbed off my bike, got into the car and put my head in my hands. There was no big sobbing session but a couple of tears of frustration betrayed me and sneakily rolled down my cheeks"

    Tough life.

Less of the xenophobic stuff, swampy.

    Gobshite.

You know what the definition of xenophobic is right? I trust you do because you keep quoting newspapers, well Paul Kimmage Weekly, so I'm guessing you know how to read.

So, using your awesome logic, how does me mentioning a particular atom bomb make me hate all Japanese, which is what I'm guessing you're insinuating. Effectively being called racist isn't something I take lightly.

You come out with strong stuff like that it'd be nice to get some 'xplaining.

... and I fully expect this post to be fully edited by you. Just like my other post... because you're like that.

    Weak

The fact of the matter is that you posted comments which were out of order.
If I recall correctly another poster also called you about the content of the post that you made.

I am not interested in whatever justification you think is appropriate to excuse the comments that you made.
With all due respect to your mother in law.

The last time I checked a comment such as "Always like to keep the comments politically correct ey Swampy?" hardly represents disgust, shock or horror. It was a comment and unless Eldreck contacted you personally I really don't think that it merited editing of a post or two.

Then again, it's not the first time you'd wondered into posts heavy handed with "Mod God" attitude and edited according to your own personal believes. Whenever I post something that doesn't seem to your liking, especially about drugs use of Irish riders, things are edited.

What was the term you slung at me that's so fitting for you?

    Gobshite.

    Fits you well.

There was nothing in my original post that referred to any preference, or lack there of, to folks of another country and therefore I find your xenophobic jibe really [censored] offensive.

    Tough.

The comments that you posted are edited as required. You post xenophobic comments, the comments get edited.
Not withstanding the nationality of your mother in law.

  6. it was not the best timming to make jokes about japan, even if you didn't mean any harm...

  7. vspa, when I posted I knew of an earthquake in Japan but not of it's severity. I spent most of my time last week working in a control room and only knew of what I overheard or chose to seek out on the web. Reading news at work often isn't high on my priority unless its of matters regarding personal interest.

    Lim,

Just for future reference, so there's no more snafu's like this again, please define how my post was xenophobic.

    merriam-webster.comxenophobia

xenophobia: fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign

True, my simile may not have been exactly in the best taste but it implied none of the above.
