    Paris-Nice 2011
    The Paris–Nice is known in cycling circles as "the race to the sun". It's a week long stage race held in March, many on this forum consider it the season opener! A lot of professionals agree, those aspiring to do well during July often choose the Paris-Nice to start their season. A side effect of this is the list of past winners is rivaled only by the Tour de France.

    The Paris-Nice is also notable because during the 2003 race, Kazakhstan's Andrei Kivilev died due to head injury sustained in an accident. His death prompted the UCI to mandate the use of helmets in all competition.

    so Boonen, Hushovd, Freire, Gilbert and Cancellara are not on the starting list,
    have they chosen Tirreno Adriatico instead, to be ready for the upcoming Classics ?

    Goss, Henderson and Haussler are probably the 3 fastest left in the race. Sagan crashed, i'd think he'll be starting tomorrow it didn't look to bad.

    I think all the riders you have listed have.

    Should be a good race as well. As for Paris-Nice, the race for the Leaders Jersey should start today, wont be won today but could easily be lost.

    When you have a climb like the col d'eze at the end of the race you don't need to finish going uphill. Fireworks on the way up and even more fun on the way down. This climb has shattered more dreams of overall victory that than fat man and little boy did windows in Japan.

    Always like to keep the comments politically correct ey Swampy?

    Col d'eze should keep things interesting though, potentially anyone sitting in the top ten going into Sundays stage can still win it if they use there team and then attack hard and early. You have to split the race up if you want big gaps.

    Realistically though it's Martins race to lose at this point, I don't see Kloden or Wiggins being explosive enough to drop Martin. I can only hope the other teams stay optimistic, race hard and keep things interesting!

    Watched the coverage on Versus yesterday, thank you versus!! I really enjoy watching Thomas Voekler (sp) riding. He is such a competitor and he is so aggressive. It seems very few riders will take the initiative and ride like he does. Vinokurov (sp) used to attack like this a few years ago and occasionally now. I know the team manager controls who attacks etc. but it seems Voekler will always attack more than most in stage races. At any rate he is a warrior in my estimation. His riding style is very distinctive and he rides with grit and determination for sure. It will be interesting to see how this year plays out.

    Given that my mother-in-law is from the ol' Orient and I think s....................................................moderated.

    Not interested Swampy in whatever you may think regarding what comments made be "justified" or not, or where you mother in law may be from.

    Awesome ride by Voeckler and Sammy Sanchez's attack certainly threw the cat amongst the pigeons.
