OK, so I'm new to this touring lark and I need some large panniers. I'm looking at these here Ortleib rollers. Very nice they are, I like the yellow ones. Nice and waterproof. But hang on a mo - no pockets!! In practice, is this likely to be a major problem? If so, should I be looking at something with a few more pockets etc from Altura?
for goodness sake there was a topic started on this subject only on 8 March.
just go to that thread and peruse it and ask your question.

Depends how much your habits require pockets... I quite like pockets, but it's hardly the End Of The World if you just leave a toolbag on top of the stuff in the main compartment.
In practice I think you'll find a bar bag is a much more convenient place to keep snacks, tools etc. as you can get at them without getting off the bike.

Now, now Pinky, if people actually read past threads perhaps we wouldn't get as many h****t threads? :-) At least this question is about cycling, and technically isn't the same as the older pannier thread, as the OP is asking whether side pockets on panniers are useful.
IME if you've got a bar bag then poockets are not necessay, as all th stuff you want quick access to is in there.
