  1. Hi MSeries,

if you (or anyone else) are still more than half interested in entering
this year, here's the latest newletter email from the Wicklow 200
    organisers:

    *************************************************

Food/drink will be supplied at four points on this year's Wicklow 200.
The Maximuscle energy station at Laragh (60km for 200km route, 45km for
100km route) will provide free energy drinks for all riders. At the
Donard checkpoint (90km) each rider will get a muesli bar, a figroll
bar, a Snack bar, and tea/coffee. Water and toilet facilities will also
be available. At the top of Slieve Maan (130km) riders will reach the
Power Bar energy station, which will provide free energy drinks. We
hope to provide water too, but it's not yet confirmed (getting water
for 1000 riders to the top of a mountain is not as easy as you might
    think!).

Lastly, the Rathdrum checkpoint (145km for 200km route, 55km for 100km
route) will provide the same as the Donard checkpoint - 3 bars,
    tea/coffee, and water.

These food supplies are not intended to be sufficient to complete the
Wicklow 200. You should plan to bring or buy extra food such as
sandwiches or energy bars. Shops beside the checkpoints in Donard and
Rathdrum will be open from 9:00 a.m.

If you haven't entered yet don't forget that after next Saturday 27th
May the late entry fee of 50 euro will apply. It still looks like we
will reach our maximum of 1300 entrants sometime late next week, and
when that happens entries will be closed completely. No entries will be
accepted at the start on 11th June.

    *************************************************

    1300!
Sign in is from 06:00-07:00, on the University College Dublin campus,
about 3 miles from the city centre, and some of the bigger club
contingents are organising a mass start at 06:45 - That could be
interesting for the first 10 miles or so until it gets strung out a
    bit.
Personally, I'm going to try and be underway by 06:15 or so....

Anyway, anyone still interested in entering only has a couple of days
    left.

    Regards,

    bookieb

me too; even with flights from Gatwick that weekend at 24p a shot it
still ends up at the fat end of £100 for the weekend. Next year; could
be my other "continental" trip (1)

    (1) well they've got the euro and kms ;-)

    £100+ I'd guess.
    Entry fee alone is €45
One nights B&B in that area is going to be €35, and realistically
    you'll need two nights.
Flights might be half of sod all, but the airport charges and taxes are
normally €10 or so at each end, and if it's a budget airline, they're
gonna charge for the bike each way too.

    45 entry, 70 B+B, 50 for flights, 50 spending, a few pints etc. =
€215, that about £140 I think. Pricey enough, unless you can crash
    with friends...

Well, if anyone is coming over and wants advice on accomodation etc.,
just give me a shout in the group.

    Regards,

    bookieb.

Unless you can get a flight back home on Sunday night, you'd have to
    take Monday off too.

Yeah I costed the whole thing at £92 for flight +tax+bike+ entry; and
that would be sleeping in a tent by the side of the road (in Dublin!!).
I've already used up lots of beer vouchers and weekend permits this
year as it is, but would like to do it some day. Will have to content
myself with the Dales. Shame, Butterknowle instead of Guiness ;-)

The UCD accommodation was quite cheap providing one could get booked.
There were some good deals on the train/ferry too but I was unsure
about carriage of bikes on these services.
