    I think the front wheel is too compressed to be caused by a chain
    problem. Heck, the wheel is still compressed and the handlebars are
    no longer attached. And the back wheel is still off the ground. I'd
    say it's a post-jump photo.

    I agree with Phil... there is probably nothing wrong with the
    derailer and drivetrain in this photo. The chain is just continuing
    its path downward while the ground stops the rest of the bike. Again,
    I think it's a photo of the landing from the jump.

    On second look, maybe you're right. Perhaps the impact sagged the chain,
    then the deceleration pulled it forward with the cage.

    Actually, it more or less does both, or neither, depending on how close
    you go. The wheel 'stands' on the bottom spokes losing a large amount of
    tension while the top spokes gain a teensy bit (but not correspondingly
    much). So you could *either* interpret that as standing on the bottom
    spokes (if you subtract static tension from the spoke tensions, it looks
    like the bottom spokes are in compression, like they would be when
    standing on them), or you could interpret it as hanging from the top
    spokes -- while the bottom spokes don't pull down so much any more.

    If this is an accurate description of what happened, this means that
    the stem had nowhere near enough insertion. A properly inserted stem
    cannot fail this way, the contact point being well below the threads.
    Shear off the top of the steerer at the threads and the stem is still
    securely attached to what remains of the steer tube.

    The link someone else posted to an eBay auction shows a very similar
    frame, but not the stem and headset. Or bars, for that matter.

    The guy should learn some elementary bicycle repair before giving her
    another go.

    Looks like it to me; no evidence of a clamp, and that sure looks like
    the upper half of a headset on the quill.

    Deceleration alone wouldn't flatten the tire (and flex the spokes!)
    like that. The most weight brakes along could place on the front
    wheel is the weight of the rider and bike (and that's not nearly
    enough to do what you see in the photo). Also, it's clear that the
    chain is being pulled DOWN, not forward.

    Exactly - if the bike wasn't "standing" on the bottom spokes, they'd
    still be straight (spokes don't do a very good job of supporting
    weight without tension). The whole "standing/hanging" thing is just
    based on your perspective - and on relative tension. Jobst is right
    when you consider that all the tension changes in a working wheel
    occur in the bottom spokes (just like they do with a wagon wheel).
