Guess my last post really hit home for you. Resorting to insults just
makes you look desperate. Since when have conservatives resented
private ownership? Privatize this, privatize that, seems to be the
Republican mantra. And when some civilian organization criticize
Rumsfeld for poor planning for the Iraq War, all the sudden private
ownership is no longer gravy?

"DoD spokeman Whitman (in response to the Army Times editorial) said
Rumsfeld has 'clearly and accurately' described the the challenges
facing US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan."
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/03/rumsfeld.resign/

Let me remind you at this point Rumsfeld was responsible for General
Shinseki's early "retirement:"

"The idea that it would take several hundred thousand U.S. forces I
think is far off the mark," Mr. Rumsfeld said. General Shinseki gave
his estimate in response to a question at a Senate Armed Services
Committee hearing on Tuesday: "I would say that what's been mobilized
to this point - something on the order of several hundred thousand
soldiers - are probably, you know, a figure that would be required."
He also said that the regional commander, Gen. Tommy R. Franks, would
determine the precise figure."
http://www.globalpolicy.org/security/issues/iraq/attack/consequences/2003/0228pentagoncontra.htm

Shinseki is the only one who has been "let go" so far, and his words
now seem prophetic. It's about time for Rumsfeld to be accountable.
"Clearly and accurately," yeah right, who is Whitman trying to fool??

Oh, least I forget, Military Times Media Group is owned by Gannett.
Gannett also happens to own USA Today. You can see which operations
Gannett runs here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gannett

As has already been stated, the editorial board of a publication must
largely reflect the views of its audience (the US military in the case
of Army times), or otherwise they wouldn't sell any papers because
nobody would bother subscribing.

Well, it's more complicated than that. Guys like Perle, Ledeen and the rest of
the neocons in the Vanity Fair article who are now saying that they wouldn't support
the war if they'd known how badly it would be run are simply trying to distance
themselves from the war that they clamored for so they can continue to play a part
in our foreign policy. "It wasn't us!" Sickening. Funny how rightwingers always want
to say that liberals can't take responsibility for their actions - here's a great
example of hypocritical rightwingers not wanting to take responsibiity for their
actions. They own it, goddamn it. Laughable to see Ledeen try to claim that he was
against the war from the get go. Yeah, right. Straight out of Front Page magazine
(August, 2002):

Question #2: Okay, well if we are all so certain about the dire need to invade Iraq,
then when do we do so?

Ledeen: Yesterday.

More evidence that the the Iraq War is going swimmingly well:

Hey, you know that, and I know that. Rats are deserting the sinking

But let's not over-complicate the issue for the right wingnuts on this

What I'm saying is that there is almost no one in the government right
now who doesn't give handouts. The current administration (Bushco)
does massive handouts. They give handouts to the rich and powerful.

So which do you think are better -- handouts to the mega-rich or
handouts to people in real need?

I don't work in a private business sector and I don't work in the
public sector either. You're too dopey to know that there are two
other sectors of the economy than those two. Think about it a little.

I like women. Especially if they like to dance, and have
positive outlooks. Heck, I pretty much like everybody.
People are often pretty good, when you give 'em half a
fair chance. But I have more yesterdays than tomorrows,
and I guess I can no longer afford to waste my tomorrows
as much as I used to. /You/ can, if ya wanna. It's a

Despite the damage control that is now being offered, I think that
it was Bush who was drinking the kool-aid concocted by Perle,
Kristol, et al., not the other way 'round.

Yup. And he had this interesting propensity to not look at
where he was hucking the ball, looking down at the rubber instead.
It was all very Zen. Maybe too Zen for MLB (which presents an
interesting conundrum.)

Hey, I remember Jesse Orosco, too. That guy had, if nothing else,
a Style which I admired.

Charlie Hough -- now, there was a good ol' workhorse. Maybe he
didn't have the high-falootin' numbers, but career-wise he did
pretty good.

I believe Valenzuela was also Ritchie Valens' (La Bamba) real name.

I wonder how the name: "Valenzuela" translates into English?
