If the US government were really worried about security, it would stop committing acts of military
and economic violence against others nations (while lying to the American people about its real
policies and goals). Instead of withdrawing from international treaties and cooperation, the US
would work with other nations to peacefully resolve conflicts with military action used only as a
last resort. The policy of "pre-emptive strikes", which is only encouraging countries such as North
Korea to develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent, would be publicly reputed.

There are other issues that will affect long-term security that the US government refuses to
address, such as the upcoming crises of massive worldwide ecological disturbances caused by the
over-consumption of natural resources and the related problems of potable water shortages and
global warming.

Of course, the US is starting to fail internally, with the prospects of a long term recession,
increasing social breakdown, and the efforts of the economic elite's to destroy the remaining New
Deal programs that continue to push the wage earning and small businesses classes farther down the
economic scale from the elite's.

The real reason for wanting to embark on series of military adventures (Iraq, Iran, North Korea,
Saudi Arabia?, Libya?) is the increasing resistance to US hegemony by economic means such as the
WTO, IMF, World Bank (indicated by the recent electoral successes of political parties and
candidates in South America that repudiate "neo-liberalism"), and the decreasing influence of the US
on world policy. A US military grab of a huge share of the worlds oil reserves would allow the US to
dominate world affairs to the benefit of its economic elite's.

What's the point of arguing with you, Tom. If you lose a point you just change the subject to
something you think has a better ring to it. We're having a civil discussion about the Turks and
their relatively civil system of government, and you change the topic to the Palestinians and bring
out the "ethnic cleansing" guns. I just get fed up with you, and the way you just **** on a civil
dialogue. If you feel so damn strongly about it go to Palestine and volunteer. Maybe you can even
blow up a few Israeli school kids. If it's really that serious why the hell are you wasting your
time on a usenet newsgroup?

Otherwise, take St. Paul's advice.

Shouldn't that be "why are you wasting our time while being wildly offtopic in a usenet newsgroup
about recumbents"? ;o)

Mikael:

I didn't start the thread.

You don't have to read it.

I don't feel that either side in the Palestinian/Israeli issue are employing "ethnic cleansing' and
happen to think it'll eventually be resolved.

I've tried to bring the topic back to Hermaphrodites and Midgets several times, to no avail. It was
perceived as an insult. (Personally when I heard that line in the movie I coudn't stop laughing for
30 minutes. Cracked me up.)

Too much ice to go bike riding.

Amen.

For me also, time finally has run out for Terrible Tom, this newsgroup's angriest, baddest left

Scott,

You were the one that brought up the point about Israel having a superior level of political and
civil freedom than the rest of the Middle East. I do not see how one can judge the behavior of
Israel on these matters without considering how they treat the Palestinian Arabs, both in Israel and
the occupied territories.

As for the level of civility in the discussion, I do not believe any comment is necessary.

Hey, at least I am good at something. As for being a "assh*le", if I really wanted to I could make
Jobst Brandt look like huggy bear by comparison.

Robert,

You may well get your wish, if the Domestic Security Enhancement Act of
2003 [1] is passed, the government will have enough reason to declare me a terrorist and put me in a
concentration camp, where I doubt they would provide me with internet access. The bright
side is someone would get a chance to buy a Sunset and Dragonflyer at a Department of
Homeland Security seized property auction.

Of course, for those who really dislike me, there is always the hope that the government would find
it too expensive to keep troublemakers around, and build some nice brick "showers" and "trash
incinerators".

they ride, High BB would be out I'd think and a Cobra Hardshell wouldn't need a readrest cause these
Dwarves would sit too low. Do they have their own Newsgroup yet. Hmmm a damn good way to make $$
here folks, When they are NOT being tossed in OZ land...re: the Australian Dwarf Tossing contests,
we could go after Federal $ and create the American Defence League for Wee Small Diminutive Little

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

You'll have to take that up with Freedom House. I did make that comment, not to make a point about
Israel especially but just to point out that it's an exception. The point, if I wanted to make one,
would be something like: if and when there's a will to settle the matter of the occupied territories
Israel has a political system that allows it to make a credible commitment to that solution after an
undoubtedly heated public debate. The Palestinians don't. And that's not in my estimation, or
Israel's, but in the estimation of the Palestinian Governing Council that meets periodically to make
recommendations. I think Asrawi is the chair. (Not a handsome woman, but sincere. She used to live
in my neighborhood.)

*grrr* You changed it again on purpose. :)

Anyway seems you were a bit slow off the mark since the preceeding 40 messages with you and
Freewheeling had absolutely no trace of humour. Well, cept that letter to the hermaphrodites
possibly. ;-)

Mikael,

I find some humor that I am flamed for my postings by someone who has used political advertisement
type attacks on me - e.g. I express an opinion about US government policy, that would be considered
mainstream in most of the economically advanced nations, and I am accused of being a Stalinist
sympathizer like the fringe World Workers Party (who promotes dictators such as Kim Jong II, Fidel
Castro, and Slobodan Milosevic).

I also find it humorous that I am accused of being uncivil by someone who uses name calling, but I
have not responded in kind, accuses me of using unfair discussion tactic, yet that person makes
statements of opinion presented as fact, and denigrates anyone who disagrees.

Tom Sherman - Quad Cities USA (Illinois side)

Belatedly, I want to apologize to Tom Sherman and to this NG for saying that Tom is our baddest,
most leftist "expletive". I was tired, inexcusably hurried and careless in posting my note. This is
generally an open, interesting NG with much good humor, including many funny and often self-effacing
comments from Tom Sherman.

Very clearly, I should have said: Tom Sherman is our baddest leftist-wing iconoclast. Most
definitely, there is nothing wrong with having unpopular opinions, for sure.
