If the US government were really worried about security, it would stop committing acts of military
and economic violence against others nations (while lying to the American people about its real
policies and goals). Instead of withdrawing from international treaties and cooperation, the US
would work with other nations to peacefully resolve conflicts with military action used only as a
last resort. The policy of "pre-emptive strikes", which is only encouraging countries such as North
Korea to develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent, would be publicly reputed.
There are other issues that will affect long-term security that the US government refuses to
address, such as the upcoming crises of massive worldwide ecological disturbances caused by the
over-consumption of natural resources and the related problems of potable water shortages and
global warming.
Of course, the US is starting to fail internally, with the prospects of a long term recession,
increasing social breakdown, and the efforts of the economic elite's to destroy the remaining New
Deal programs that continue to push the wage earning and small businesses classes farther down the
economic scale from the elite's.
The real reason for wanting to embark on series of military adventures (Iraq, Iran, North Korea,
Saudi Arabia?, Libya?) is the increasing resistance to US hegemony by economic means such as the
WTO, IMF, World Bank (indicated by the recent electoral successes of political parties and
candidates in South America that repudiate "neo-liberalism"), and the decreasing influence of the US
on world policy. A US military grab of a huge share of the worlds oil reserves would allow the US to
dominate world affairs to the benefit of its economic elite's.
