  1. I just found the ill fitting, poor handling old beater of an
observatory bike (apparently the truck, with the bikes, arrives Friday.
It will only have been 3 weeks and a day, if they don't find another
    excuse to delay).

I just went for a quick ride around the mountaintops before
dinner/breakfast (and came back about 5 mins early -- lets me cool
down, I guess). I can now appreciate why it took one hour for the bad
seeing (turbulence in the atmosphere) to propogate from one telescope
to ours lastnight. The mountaintops aren't as flat as what they
    superficially look.

Geez the air is thin up here. Oh damn, who am I kidding? How the
heck did I lose fitness so damn quickly?

It is cruel how quickly fitness disappears. I can emphasis after
returning from a 3 month OS trip, of no bike and to much eating and
drinking, I went from as fit and strong as I had ever been to feeling
like I was completely starting out again.

Only after a good 6 weeks of bike am I feeling I am getting something
back, but it is still no where close to where I was. Still lots of
    hard work to come.

Hope your bike turns up ASAP. On the bright side you have those hills
to snap you back into fitness!

Oh and keep riding the old clunker, when you get back onto your road
bike you will at least feel a little fitter instantly 🙂

    Peace

I'm saying the same thing Tim. Three weeks ago I was at peak fitness,
then I had two weeks of a stomach infection, and now I feel like I
    haven't exercised for 6 months.

Who are these liars who reckon tapering is good? And give me a
    another beer, dammit 🙂

There's lots of pollen in the air (the horizon is really murky (we
could see the shadow the observatory was casting on the murk on the
horizon, at sunset, today)). Just walking outside onto the dome
catwalk makes my lungs burn. And it smells rather.... bushy.

bummer, I broke my collarbone 2 weeks ago. So 6 weeks = 18 months?
Maybe if I stop eating? at least I won't put on the flab.

    Andre,

Simon mentioned your accident. Sorry to hear about the collar bone. I
hope it heals soon. I've been off for a week and a half due to the flu.
Not one of those nasty colds that people loosely refer to as flue but
the real deal. I felt like death. Finally back on the bike on Monday
and was surprised at how well I went... until I got home last night!
Slept like a baby! Better to have muscle soreness from exercise than
from the flu though, believe me.

Isn't there some sort of superstition that if you don't ride a bike
before sunrise you shrivel up and die? Or have I mixed it up with
    something else?
